It is about time that powerful white men decide what we should do in this country...about fucking time!
Yeah. And that's just the way we like it, see?
Take off your tinfoil hats and unbunch your panties. The superdelegates will ratify which ever pro-choice Wall Street Republican, Obama or Clinton, gets the most popular delegates. Their purpose is to make sure a New Deal Democrat(Kuncinich), or even a moderate Democrat(Edwards), never gets enough delegates to become a kingmaker or spoiler.
Your link sez:
"According to a Politico analysis, close to half of the 700-plus Democratic superdelegates who could end up determining the party nominee are white men. "
As a mathematician applying all of my skills I can confidently state that "close to half" is significantly smaller than 100% - 100% being the old way.
@4,
Yes, but white men make up significantly less than 50 percent of the American public.
Well, it's a good thing this eventuality will only happen if the decision comes down to superdelegates.
Imagine if powerful white men had been involved from the beginning in deciding which candidates were viable and would see DNC support. Thank God for black women like Howard Dean, Bill Clinton, et al.
It is pretty much a foregone conclusion that this decision is going to come down to superdelegates, and from what I've read, it has been for a while.
are the candidates really so boring that there is nothing better to cover than the minute-by-minute updates in the superdelegate situation?
really? the politico? a "news" site funded by republican operatives?
It's a nice statistic to think about... but it's not exactly a conspiracy or anything.
Based on the definitions of a superdelegate, this isn't going to change until we slowly elect more Senators and Representatives who are female and or of color, and until diverse party activists begin to make their ways up the party leadership ladder.
It's happening. It just takes awhile to become part of the "old guard."
Go whitey!
...and who would these white men pick if it were up to them - the black GUY or the white WOMAN??
Gee...i wonder.
Speaking of old white dudes, none of the other news outlets are reporting Tom Foley as a Hillary delegate. Did something change since the SeaTimes article?
Good, because they apparently like Obama.
