Slog - Comments on Huckabee Isn't Conceding Washington

We know the GOP as a rule doesn't like to count every vote--Florida 2000, Washington state 2004--but the GOP usually seeks to shut down vote counting in general elections, not primaries. But with nearly 13% of the vote left to count, Luke Esser and the rest of the gang at Washington state's GOP stopped counting the votes from yesterday's GOP caucus. And Mike "Miracles" Huckabee ain't havin' it: The Washington State GOP, with 87.2 percent reporting, discontinued the counting process. We are looking into the matter. We are committed to making certain EVERY vote is counted. We will keep you...

Even if McCain manages to eke out a plurality in WA, this still can't be good news for the GOP, both here and nationally. One would imagine with a vote count this close rank-and-file Repubs would be up in arms at the use of such a bald-faced tactic.

Once McCain became a virtual certainty for the nomination on Super Tuesday, he should have started wrapping up votes by bigger and bigger margins. Civilized parties get behind their candidate. But the Republican Party are a bunch of barbarians, and they are TURNING AWAY from their man. It's going to kill the party. There's going to be blood in the hallways at their convention, and it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of maniacs.

And Ron Paul gets 21% here! His best showing anywhere! Go Washington! White Power!

The GOP has become so openly sleezy and corrupt. I'm not sure what is more damaging to the psyches of it's supporters, supporting them blindly or supporting them with full knowledge. I continue to meet people in both groups and it's often a very surreal experience as I realize a seemingly rational logical human being lives in a completely different mental universe.

The longer Huckabee stays in the race and the more delegates / attention he to collects the more this race will turn to the rabid right.

McCain might be forced to add him as his VP just to get the voters to show up - the few that are showing up. It wouldn't be the first time that moderate Republicans (whatever that is) rallied around a lunatic religionist just to win.

The Dem nominee will start wooing the Christian lunatics soon enough and all of the appearance of 'change' will begin to swirl down the drain.

Just wait until the CA Supreme Court announces its marriage decision...if they allow marriage in CA, Huckabee will be christened as the savior that must be elected.

What will the Democrats do if same-sex marriage is established in CA?

Actually, everyone who is anti-big corporations corrupting this process should actually be supporting Huckabee. He's the only GOP candidate not in the pockets of the big corporations. The guy has no money in his campaign chest at all compared to all the front runners. He's probably more in touch with the average guy on the street economics wise than most politicians. That is what has the GOP leadership scared if he wins. Big money wouldn't have sealed the deal this time.

Amazingly EXPECTED! In Louisiana's caucuses Huckabee, Romney and McCain supporters created a fake Uncommitted group called "Pro-Life for Reagan" in order to steal the victory away from Ron Paul. And Huckabee claims that something similar bewteen McCain and Romney happened to him in Missouri.

The Republicans are all about Byzantine behind the scenes manoeuvres to win elections...and only cry about it when they, themselves, are screwed over by it.

I don't want to appear to be one of those always looking for conspiracies but it does seem suspicious to stop counting just when McCain edges out Huckabee for the lead. It does make one wonder if they are actually counting now and will only report the new totals if McCain wins. I don't understand how Louisiana and Kansas can manage to count all 100% of their precincts' results and Washington State can't. I thought the numbers turning out for the GOP caucus was down from prior years.

Yes, the main stream media's annointed nominee managed to lose 75% of the vote. 25% to Huckabee, 21% to Ron Paul (who had to take a brief hiatus to deal with the Neocons running a pro-war Republican in his district primary, 16% to Romney (who dropped out) and 11% undecided (which will go largely to Paul due to instructions by the state campaing to not identify themselves as Paul supporters). I can't wait for McCain and Hilalry to go away.

While I don't believe there is evidence to suggest that the WA Republican Party have counted the caucus results crookedly, there are reasons for suspicion. The suspension of the count last night that Dan and Josh Marshall pointed out are suspicious. So are the slow posting of results of their web site and their not posting results by county. Hiding details of the result would make it easier to tamper with them.

It's pretty obvious to me that with races this close at this stage of the game, there is no real "nominee". Irregardless of which of these two wins the coveted nomination, the other's supporters will not vote for the man who is chosen. The general election at best will only be a 25 percent turnout, with 75 percent of the voters opting to stay home.
As a result, the Dems are in office by a huge landslide.
