According to some lady in Councilmember Bruce Harrell’s office, Bruce has been “getting orientated” for the last month and a half. We haven’t heard from him in a while, and we’re starting to get worried.
He will be at the Planning Commission's meeting this Thursday at 3:15, along with the other new Councilmember Tim Burgess.
The two new councilmembers are on the Planning Commission's agenda from 3:15 - 3:55 pm at City Hall in the Boards and Commission conference room.
My understanding from Barbara Wilson, the director of the Planning Commission, is that the session with the 2 new members will be a meet and greet, get to know you, sort of thing. The Planning Commission will probably ask each of them what their early goals and priorities will are for their term of office.
Anyway, I have not heard much from Bruce Harrell either so I plan to pop in to hear what he has to say.

Forgive me for not being willing to pile on like the rest of the poseurs. I don't really have a problem with newly elected members taking a bit of time to learn the status of everything. We're talking 5 weeks out of a 4 year term, just to get some perspective. Some previous city council members jumped right in and introduced legislation that had been passed already. Or legislation with massive unintented consequences. Or really great ideas, like banning circus animals in city limits.
In Congress, most first, and even second-term, members are supposed to just "go along to get along", as Sam Rayburn famously said. Granted, navigating the orientation to Seattle City Hall is nothing like learning just how fucked up the federal bureaucracy is, but still, give the new members a break.
Besides, both Bruce Harrell AND Tim Burgess endorsed Barack Obama. Last Spring. They both even maxed out to Obama. That's a pretty good start, if you ask me.

For the love of god, can the Stranger send someone to this meeting? (I'd go but I have class then. Public intern at least?):

Neither of these candidates ran on any sort of issues platform- it was all about "character." So what the fuck are they going to do on the Planning Commission? Stranger reports!(?)
When are you guys going to get over Harrell being elected? This is crap at several levels: why didn't you talk to Harrell himself about what he's been doing rather than a staff person, why didn't you include your question to give some the context to the answer. Why didn't you include your hall of fame first month council acheivements as a benchmark? Also, last month you referred to him as a gorilla and now you suggest he's a slacker. I have no doubt if a conservative publication/blog did that to a person of color, you hip voice of the urban cool would be outraged and mortified to the high heavens.
Orientated is only acceptable if you are talking about someone who is facing or turning East. I seriously doubt dude has been at that for the last month and a half.

In this photo, Bruce is facing northwest. Glad to be of help.
Isn't the address of his office printed right on his business card?

thats the corner of 4th and madison.
He's at Fourth and Union, in front of my office.
Frank is going to be the new David Della. Can't wait until next election to dump him. What a horrid replacement for Steinbreuck
His name is BRUCE, not Frank.
"Orientated" . . . ugh.
orienTED.
america is doomed.
@ 9/10—Just to be clear, they really said "orientated." That's not my fuck up.

@11 - That's what I figured . . . fie on the nameless lady in Bruce Harrell's office!
I thought he went on vacation?
This Slog post is sooooo racist! I can't believe that you would imply that brown people are too lazy to show up for work. Shame on you!

"Orientated" is less common in the US than "oriented" but is still acceptable.
Yeah, if you think wrong is acceptable.

He seemed orientated enough.
