Slog - Comments on Governance Reform Storm

She didn't bring the bill up for a committee vote today (in her transportation committee) because it wouldn't have passed. There's reportedly too much disagreement in the Democratic caucus about the bill. Basically, the bill reconstitutes Sound Transit to spend its money on roads and transit and makes the agency accountable to a regional elected board. The effect, I imagine, would be to empower roads advocates to siphon dough away from light rail. She's going...

Holy crap, Feit! There was another Democratic Caucus and you didn't tell your readers about it? Do you have any idea how many more people could have gotten laid if they'd known there was another caucus to cruise, er, attend?

I give her the benefit of the doubt. Representing Camano Island she's likely doing what will prove of greater direct benefit to Camano Islanders. It's gonna take a while for light rail to get to Island County.

let the entire state vote. no more caucuses. the only democratic fair way, let all the people vote. put it on the ballot. if idaho, nebraska and n. dakota can partially determine the national democatic presidential candidate why not let spokane partially determine tranportation governance throughout the state?

@3 - Yeah, I can appreciate that she's probably just trying to represent the specific interests of her constituency, but that doesn't take away from the fact that her bill is a bad bill.

Comment by Douglas Tooley

Haugen's idea might be on track, but she's lately been the shill for some questionable folks.

At the Port of Seattle hearing in Olympia she was badgering testifiers in support of the ill-conceived and ill-timed idea to lessen Port accountability by merging it with the successful Port of Tacoma.

Reforming an agency by the people who were the problem in the first place might be a smart action on their part. Thankfully at least some of our State legislators are wise to the lies.

Are you?
