Slog - Comments on Google's Loose Change

Ever since I covered them, I've been keeping an eye on 9/11 Truth websites, and the above video has been making the rounds. First: that's some pretty sweet animation, I have to say. Second, I think that the movie makes some good (but oft-covered) points. Third, I think that the ending--"Every human being would become completely transparent"--is maybe an eentsy little bit histrionic....

Interesting.

When I saw the title I was wondering if any of the Google people at the meeting at a certain online picture provider in Fremont dropped some.

But, then, I don't use 9/11 "truth" sites.

It's so sad that animation and design talent like that is put to use in sensationalist conspiracy theory.

Think of Google as the modern library, where everyone's got an autobiography. Yes, *auto*-biography. The information available about us on the web, all of the private things that only each individual knows, we place there ourselves. If and when the human genome project reaches a point where every person's is catalogued and searchable for known traits, we'll have much larger issues at hand than whether Google has it.

@2- the public, rather smartly, rejected Microsoft's 'Passport' notion a few years back about creating a 'web identity', primarily because it was expensive and had Microsoft at the middle. Google and others are trying the same thing these days, for free, for better or for worse.

Ah truthers..... some fancy animation and who needs sources or facts? Just trust them, they're telling the truth, right?

Like others are saying, limit what you put out there to what you feel comfortable having the matrix know....

jesus, when will those people get a life?

interesting and very deliberate use of revolutionary Russian poster design throughout - note the still frames of Brin and Page, with apparent raised fists. Of course, red and black also evokes the Nazis.

Also, note that the Director/Producer team are Ozan Halici & Jurgen Mayer, and that they are also credited as the animators and designers.

Halici at least appears to be a motion designer based in Germany:

http://www.oziris.de/

As I suspected, the work is a student production - Halici subtitles it as his 'master thesis.'

That whole thing just emphasized that our own government it evil. What would Google have to gain by cooperating with the CIA? I am sure most of the people on Slog have their own FBI file.
I wouldn't give up my gmail for nothing.

This reminds me of EPIC 2014, a future history of the internet that was made in 2004. It's scarily accurate so far, except in some of the particulars of who buys whom. Very entertaining. Check it out, Paul.

This kind of animation is getting way over-used, and always by conspiracy nuts.

Listen to the audio, without the animation, and you don't have much substance.

There's a lot of resentment in Europe over US dominance in the internet markets. People probably should do a little research on how things like Google and web mail work, but this video isn't helping all that much.

It's funny how this conspiracy type stuff always relies on a narrator's cadence, even when the point contradicts itself or is a total nonsequeter.

"Google is the most powerful search engine in the world. Do you WANT JUST ANYONE HAVING KEYS TO YOUR CAR?"
