So is Cindy McCain going to be on the cover of next week's Stranger?

Posted by Tom Verlaine | February 27, 2008 5:24 PM

No, Joan Allen will.

Posted by Nat | February 27, 2008 5:25 PM

So where is her good Republican cloth coat?

Posted by Jeff | February 27, 2008 5:26 PM

Jesus, did she steal that make-up off Shakira's face?

Posted by Lloyd Clydesdale | February 27, 2008 5:32 PM

How about Vicki Iseman wearing a suit jacket made out of bacon and a pornographic tie, the better to repel The Terrorists?

Offer of humor only applicable to those who began reading the Stranger before 9/11. Void where irony is prohibited.

Pat Nixon was not an attractive woman, but that's a TERRIBLE picture of her.

Does this mean that Obama's going to get elected, but assassinated in 2011, and John McCain is going to be elected in 2016 and 2020, and be forced out of office in disgrace in 2022 (when he will be 86 years old)?

I love historical parallels, they're always so spot on.

Whatever happened to Karl Rove's idea that Bush is McKinley, which would perhaps mean that Obama is who? Teddy Roosevelt?

Ronald Wilson Reagan = Insane Anglo Warlord = 666. OMG we're all gonna die!!!

Posted by Edith Prickley | February 27, 2008 5:40 PM

Does anyone read that anymore?

Posted by Will in Seattle | February 27, 2008 5:51 PM

That's not a PICTURE of Pat Nixon, it's a painting. Obviously heavily influenced by June Cleaver (Barbara Billingsley) minus the pearls.

And jesus, is that really McCain's wife? She's...mannequinish.

Posted by Wolf | February 27, 2008 5:54 PM

Um, paintings are pictures. And Pat's pearls are clipped to her earlobes. All Republican Wives are required by law to wear pearls.

Don't forget that Time in the 1960s, the end of the Henry Luce era, reflected not so much the state of the country, but the state of things that Luce cared about.

Posted by brappy | February 27, 2008 6:06 PM

That's McCain's wife? She's pretty.

Posted by Tizzle | February 27, 2008 6:06 PM

I don't think you have to be all that starry-eyed to anticipate that when Bush leaves the White House and Obama enters, it will be a major turning point. If Obama is nothing more than a competent, unremarkable president, that in itself will a radical enough change to be a jump cut indeed.

But who am I to question the oracle that is Josh Feit's collection of old Time magazines.

Posted by elenchos | February 27, 2008 6:11 PM

I thought this was a Mudede post at first.

Posted by Cat in Chicago | February 27, 2008 6:14 PM

"Obama, like Kennedy, is about to usher in a jump cut in history,"

Nice to know the future now, before it happens.

And Obama is strengthened if we just say Obama is Obama instead of saying he's like JFK.

Why diminish him by tying him to a pill popping bumbling militarist like JFK, whose dady bought his way into office very narrowly, and whose administration saw the Berlin wall go up, the missile bases in Cuba go in, who let the CIA run wild with a coup against Diem and the Bay of Pigs fiasco, and whose whole campaign was based on fear mongering that Ike/Nixon had left us without ENOUGH nuclear missles?

Apparently, unPC, you missed the title of this post.

Posted by Fnarf | February 27, 2008 7:47 PM

Cindy McCain.

Hot, and owns a beer distributorship.

Sign me up.

Posted by snort | February 27, 2008 7:51 PM

I think Obama wins.

A few days ago I decided to check out McCain's website, and the "About Cindy" page, which is mostly about the charities she started (and then stole drugs from) with daddy's money, has RECIPES as its main feature. For things like homemade guacamole, which is mostly just mashed avocadoes, and a whole-wheat pasta dish.

Ugh. I hope our next first lady is more representative of a modern woman. I want our daughters to see something in her worth aspiring to-- something besides wealth and recipes.

I don't think this is anything like 1960: People are much fatter now, and the furniture is ugly.

Posted by catalina vel-duray | February 27, 2008 8:17 PM

Yeah I'm with Fnarf, John McCain won't be elected 8 years later, considering he's 10,000 years old.

Posted by Andrew | February 28, 2008 12:30 AM

Pat Nixon stares wistfully out of the window. Mrs. McCain has a manic grin.

Times have changed...

Posted by M'thew | February 28, 2008 2:24 AM

Thanks Feit. Its always handy to have yet another rebuttal to the emotional Obama supporter, who is clearly voting against Clinton out of messianic fervour. Yuk yuk yuk.

While it is worth serving up a reality salad to the more starry eyed of BHO's supporters, I would like to reiterate that the primaries haven't turned out the way they have purely due to wild Obamamaniacs. I'm sure the constant suggestions from the HRC camp that Barrack is not a candidate worth supporting on substantive grounds have not helped her candidacy. In fact, its all just a bit paternalistic and insulting.

Oh, GOD, those eyes...those cold, dead eyes. They say I'M COMING TO EAT YOUR BABIES.

Posted by alan | February 28, 2008 4:55 AM

OH EM GEE McCain's wife looks like a man.

Posted by SDizzle | February 28, 2008 7:39 AM

I'd rather have Cindy as our next first lady than that bash-America-first Michelle.

Posted by raindrop | February 28, 2008 8:17 AM

@8. i don't read it, but only because i don't have time anymore.

Posted by infrequent | February 28, 2008 9:26 AM

Cindy Lou McWho, stealing drugs to kill the pain of her lonliness.....

Posted by Tlazolteotl | February 28, 2008 9:31 AM

raindrop you are so droll!

you do know she's an ADULTRESS & a PILL-POPPER, right?

Posted by max solomon | February 28, 2008 9:40 AM

Does McCain's wife host Gay Bingo?

Posted by IS | February 28, 2008 10:53 AM

Is that a secret Illuminati symbol on her lapel or what?

Posted by Guy Debord | February 28, 2008 11:03 AM

@11: No, paintings are NOT pictures. Paintings are paintings, photographs are pictures. As someone who's worked in art, I can say there's a difference...a very clear one.

And I'm talking pearls around the neck, not pearls on the ears. Go back and re-watch "Leave It To Beaver." June looked JUST LIKE this, except she always had her pearl necklace (no snide comments) on.

Posted by Wolf | February 28, 2008 3:42 PM

Oops, sorry, that should be @10, not @11.
