Crazy, But That’s How It Goes

posted by on February 26 at 8:54 AM

Auschglitz!, the blog devoted to “the magic of the American amateur show choir,” continues to make me very happy to be alive.

This morning’s treasure: Poca, West Virginia’s Visual Volume, going off the rails on a crazy train.

The first five seconds of this clip almost kill me. Then it gets even better. Thank you thank you thank you, Auschglitz!

Is this Ron Paul's answer to the Hillary 4U and Me video?

Poca is awesome. Its school mascot is the Poca Dots, it sits in the shadow of a 3000 megawatt coal-fired power plant, and its ground has been used to store toxic byproducts of Agent Orange manufacturing.

Why would you be embarrassed about this? It's freaking AWESOME! Consider: this is WEST VIRGINIA we're talking about here -- imagine what other outlets for sequined excitement they have there. This is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Especially those horribly flat trumpet brapps. Godlike!

I think "Visual Volume" is an appropriate name seeing as most of what you hear is their shoes/costumes rustling. It's almost as loud as their singing...

What an interesting way to start the morning...

I thought these posts would get old, and yet surprisingly, they just get better. I, for one, welcome our new show choir overlords!

Mental wounds not healing, indeed! This is one of the most wonderful / horrible things I've ever seen and heard! This will remain imbedded insidiously within my brain all day, alas . . .

Does "Auschglitz" reference something that isn't Auschwitz?

I love it! Please continue to post more. I know where to find more, but it is a pleasant surprise to see it pop up on the Slog. Also, watching this after reading the Britney article puts into perspective (again), of how fascinatingly fucked up the US of A really is.

As a former member of the New Design SWING Choir of Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, I don't know whether to be delighted or deeply offended.

But that's been true of most things in my life.
