So, now NM is a state that matters?

Congratulations on your single extra unexpected delegate, Clinton supporters.

I thought caucus were not representative of the population!! I mean what about those women who could not get baby sitters!! Obviously this system is broken!!

ECB, The Stranger's village idiot?

yeah this is bullshit. the counties that she won are the least populated (AKA: fucking white trash and illiterate as hell). NM is actually THE most illiterate state in the country- proven fact.

Don't be so proud Clinton fans, it doesn't say the best things about you as a supporter.

Yeah, tsm, you're right - it won't matter much after she gets the Michigan and Florida delegates.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Eli, but where in what you posted does HRC talk about liking or disliking caucuses?

@6:

What a vicious, vile post. Typical of many Obama supporters on Slog.

I wonder what you would have said about NM if Obama had won the state?

It still amazes me that want a Clinton again. Do you realize that first time voters know nothing but Bush's and Clinton's in office? There is a fucking reason we don't have a monarch, a very good one.

Eli - Insulting remarks like calling New Mexicans "fucking white trash and illiterate as hell" get deleted don't they?

@10 I actually live in NM. Obama has huge supporters in grossly populated counties (around ABQ and SF) but other than that.... uneducated desert rats. Sad but true. Statistic but true. It's actually the third poorest state in the country- at least it was last year.

BTW- they call themselves desert rats- ok? Or is that too mean too? God you people are sensitive.

So now Hillary is a caucus fan. Huh. How 'bout that.

Kinda like how she did nothing to stop the war, but now is against it.

Eli - ditto "uneducated desert rats".

How dare anyone make fun of Hillary all she's been through!! She lost EIGHT STATES in a ROW!! Her daughter was called a pimp on national television, her husband cheated on her while in office, and now she's running for President!!

All you people care about is votes and delegates, crucifying her in news stories, SHE'S A HUMAN!!!

What you don't realize is Hillary is making this world better, and all you do is write a bunch of crap about her. She's been promised this office for YEARS!!! Her campaign is called "Working for Change, Working for You" for a reason...and you people want is CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE!!!

LEAVE HER ALONE!!

If Eli were up on his nominating events, he might have noted that NM is the one caucus that operates like a primary. Polls are open a full 7 hours, you drop off your ballot and leave, there's no interacting with your neighbors, and the winner is the candidate who gets the most votes statewide.

It's called a "caucus" because it's administered by the Democratic Party, not the State, but in all other operational aspects it's a primary.

Which would seem to reinforce Clinton's point.

Does NM "matter"? It's not a big state, and it's not a must-have state, but it's totally a swing state that can decide a close election.

damn dude. heard of google?

“That is troubling to me. You know in a situation of a caucus, people who work during that time — they’re disenfranchised. People who can’t be in the state or who are in the military, like the son of the woman who was here who is serving in the Air Force, they cannot be present.”

@20 REALLY? Because we new mexicans talk this way about/to each other all the time.... I guess you have to be one to appreciate it. I cant believe people are so freaked out about DESERT RAT too, which is equivalent to SHED BOY in the NW. It's a common term, basically meaning someone who lives out in the desert, lives the traditional life style- they're also called Road Warriors. It's not derogatory at all. Get over it.

It wasn't the "desert rat" part of your post that was objectionable to me, it was the "fucking illiterate white trash" part.

Calling all Slog commenters (including Stranger staffers) can we please commit to trying to raise discourse to a civil level in here? On ALL sides?

What's going unrecorded in the middle of all this hostility is that only one delegate was at stake. NM's not winner-take-all. The two candidates basically tied, and all but one of the delegates was already assigned -- 12 to Obama, 13 to Clinton. This win gives her one more. One delegate.

I guess you take 'em where you find 'em.

Oh, and "shed boy"?

Posted by Fnarf | February 14, 2008 6:00 PM

Fnarf, you know shed boy right? Right? I would have hoped you would know this term... it's a big NW slang for guys who live in a shed/cabin, usually with no running water/electricity, play guitar... I'm generalizing, but it's a common term among the locals especially in the olympic peninsula. Go to breakfast at a local joint and find a "shed boy scram" for cheap. People who carry the term shed boy, like desert rat, carry it with pride.

@29 yeah I said that to piss off the Hilz voters. I guess it, um, worked? It's true though, and I would think that readers of a paper like the stranger, where you all bash the republicans with nasty terms would at least find it humorous that our great Hilary Clinton is a popular vote with middle America "illiterate white trash" people. I think its, well, really funny. But then again, I'm a bitch.

"Shed boy." When the kids are off at college, and Inga leaves me for the pool boy, I'm going to build me a shed up in the mountains. No running water. No electricity.

I never knew there was a term for the lifestyle that I wanted.

I always thought illiterate white trash voted Republican. Who else listens to Rush Limbaugh and watches Faux News? Who brought us eight years of Bush? These same people will vote for McCain in November because they think Jesus told them to.

I worked on a congressional campaign in Albuquerque in '06, and I can say from personal experience that the Secretary of State and associated elections officials there are fucking incompetent. They bungled that election in ways that probably led to the defeat of the Democratic candidate. (This from a state office dominated by Democrats in a state known for corrupt political machines. If you can't get corruption right, what can you do?)
