Celeb Bye Bye Life

onStraight boys of a certain age will always remember Roy Scheider for his performance as Chief Brody in Jaws, of course. Gay boys of a certain age will always remember him for his performance as a so-so entertainer, not much of a humanitarian, and nobody’s friend in All That Jazz.
This is some freaky, tripped-out shit—courtesy of director Bob Fosse—and it ends with Scheider… well, I’m not going to say. It’s 10 minutes long, morbidly depressing, and totally worth watching.

Don't forget Marathon Man. Dustin Hoffman's brother. Best opening scene ever. Woof.
I loved that movie - but it was so long ago, I forgot he played the lead.
I remember seeing it on HBO when I was a kid...when the parents backs were turned...and being TOTALLY riveted by that scene. Trippy does not begin to describe it.
Thanks for posting Dan. My favorite movie, with some incredible performances, especially Scheider's. Not trippy, but equally impressive, is the scene between him and (what the hell happened to) Leland Palmer in the dance studio, where they literally and figuratively dance around each other. Brilliant!
Can't forget SeaQuest
I'm so straight I just finished up missionary sex with my wife, did a final pass on the taxes, and am going to celebrate with piles of barbecue and cheap beer, after which I might go see the new Rambo.
FUCK, I love ALL THAT JAZZ! I love ROY! I love FOSSE! I LOVE THIS FUCKING DANCE SEQUENCE!
The shark movie is cool, too. But in All That Jazz, Roy smokes in the SHOWER.
THE SHOWER.
That's badass.
He's obviously most well known for Jaws, of course. But I'll always remember him in All That Jazz. I saw it my last year of high school in 1979. Loved it. Scheider was perfect.
We actually saw All That Jazz on a field trip with my high school "gifted" program. We got to see some great movies and have long days in the museums in Chicago. Don't know what the hell it was supposed to teach us.
I loved, loved, loved All That Jazz. I might have seen it on my very first gay date. Bought the soundtrack the next day.
Scheider blew me away because up until that night, I thought he was an action/adventure actor. The guy I took to the movie was an Academy member so we got in free. I think he voted for him for Best Actor. Hoffman won that year for Kramer vs. Kramer. Anyway, the editing, art direction, music and costumes won. We were pleased.
Oh yeah...and Jessica Lange as God. Nice.
Jessica Lange's not playing God, actually, she's playing the Angel of Death. Not that there's all that much difference.
