It looks like Jonah can have his Mother Butler Pies and eat them, too. The erstwhile Ballard Denny’s and the encroaching condos have apparently reached a compromise.

I'm sorry. I just can't buy off on it. The entire west section is missing ;-)
But I still maintain that if they built the condos so they wrapped around the west and north sides of the Denny's building, and gave the restaurant to Tom Douglas, it would become the new "World Class Thing", and all of the beautiful people - including the Benaroyas - would be hassling the hostess for a good table.
Plus, it would actually be a cool building to live in, if it had a balcony that looked over the restaurant. Nothing wrong with having a little pizazz in life.

I remember dining out in the old Manning's Restaurant when I was little. Mom would take me there for lunch before a dentist appointment.
Before Denney's remodeled it and fuckin' ruined the ceiling, it was open all the way to the top inside. Freaked me the hell out to look up at that swooping curved ceiling.
Taller is better.

The traffic light in yellow on the side of the plop-a-Denny's gives it a certain je ne sais quoi.

I feel sorry for all the old Ballardians that I used to serve who go into the Denny's for lunch or breakfast or hell late night snacks to cure their imposing hangovers. Now they will have to take an elevator for a Grand Slam?
Eh. Who am I kidding? By the time that they finish devoping, old folks will have obits.
