Slog - Comments on Ballard Goes to Obama

As far as I can tell, anyway. Adams Elementary School in Ballard was packed--the caucus was supposed to happen in the cafeteria, but by 1 pm the room was solid people, with lines still out the door. Some precincts had to move to the gym while others met out in the hallway and on the front lawn. Apparently the headcount was three times that of 2004's turn out. At least. As far as I could tell, all precincts went to Obama. According to one volunteer, the average was 4 to 1. The vibe was really friendly. Once we separated into...

Thanks for the ballard results, now lets have a slog party somewhere besides Moe?

RE: the Clinton-Bush dynasty argument:

Certainly the last dynasty we had : FDR, FDR, FDR, FDR and his hand ipckeed successor-- was a TOTAL DISASTER.
And before that that Adams family -- horrible! Opposing slavery and all that. Just awful. Sure glad that after the Adamses we got back to those slaveholder presidents.

And what Dan said:

"Please don’t put us through that bullshit again. Don’t waste our time. Let us vote in a primary."

As predicted it's Obama 75% in Seattle. He'll be annointed the front runner tomorrow morning on the talk shows.

oh and at my caucus Hillaria was critized for being in the pocket of the health care industry and big pharma and the insureres which is why she didn't get health care thru in the 1990's. Because they was doing their bidding.

Riiiight, that's what the problem was. She was in bed with the Thelma and Louise folks. Riiiiight.

Plus this:

Obama's black so if we vote for him it shows we're not about race anymore, and that's good; he is for hope and unity and people like that; and his voluntary health care plan will be more acceptable to republicans so they won't fight it and it's sure to be passed pretty quickly.
Clinton: a woman, for universal health care.
No mention of Iraq!

Obama 4 delegates, Clinton 1.

Since seemingly every precinct in seattle went overwhelmingly for Obama, do our super-delegates now have to listen to us? Can Ron Simms really negate the wishes of thousands of voters invested enough to go stand in a gym swathed in the musky funk of their neighbors for hours on a Saturday afternoon?

Sounds more or less like the Central District Caucus I attended as far as mood and results go. Worth noting was the overall lack of organization. It was as if the folks running it--whoever they might have been--had no plan for running a smooth process. It seemed that organizers were unprepared for the turnout. The whole thing was incredibly half-assed, but still a lot of fun, with high energy and an overwhelming vote for Obama (at least the room i was in).

@ #3:

Yeah, somebody's math suggests the fucked up mentality of the electorate. You have to wonder if they even bothered to get GEDs before caucusing.

I think they should be sterilized before the "stupid gene" can be passed on. Maybe we should require proof of sterilization before allowing them in to the voting/caucusing process. It might mean the extinction of the species, but with 8 years of GWB in the White House, would anybody really notice?

(this is a completely sarcasm-free post, one of the few from me)

(and I approve this message)

2 father-son pairs
500 million+ total Americans (?)

I don't consider either Adamses great presidents, but aside from that, both of them served only one term. Not applicable.

FDR is a valid argument, and certainly a good one, considering he was one of the greats. If you count Teddy, it becomes even more dynastic. Nevertheless, those were some damn good political genes, and I'm not convinced the Clintons share them.

The Elder Adams created and signed the first Alien and Sedition acts in order to curtail a free press and prevent criticism of his government.

The rationale was that alien citizens of enemy powers were using seditious attacks (i.e. engaged in free speech) to weaken the government. In reality, Adams just wanted a way to throw Jefferson and the Democratic party in jail.
