So the GOP is trying to win the presidency, right?

Seeing things like this reminds me how catastrophically stupid it would be to vote for him if one's preferred Democratic candidate should lose the nomination. This man is a dangerous psycho.

Bastard. I think that with that move, he can effectively write off the non-fascist vote.

Ooh, such a maverick. Not afraid to speak truth to power and stand up for his principles, that one.

It's all about the war crimes trials that GWB knows are coming once he leaves ...

That picture makes me very happy.

I was wondering how McCain would vote on this. He's been the only republican to voice any restraint on torture in any of the debates, noting he'd been tortured himself in Vietnam. Not such a Maverick after all.

in all fairness, bush is going to veto it, right? the anti-torture amendment is something mccain was in favor of. as pres, mccain would probably end torture... this bill is just fodder for dems to use against mccain or to alienate mccain from other repubs.

Blind faith- Not just for Republicans anymore.

Ok, I've officially voted for McCain for the last time (at least 6 years ago, BTW).

I don't get it. Just looks like he's pandering to the wingnuts and Bushies and throwing away all his moderate support.

He HAS to pander to the kooks in order to hold his party together. It's a disastrous strategy of course; you win elections by moving to the center, not to the fringes. But he's trapped in the ruins of the Republican coalition.

Ooh, that face.

Don't make McCain angry; we wouldn't like him when he's angry.

McCAIN SMASH!

No matter what any moderate Dem or ANY R. might tell you - Mc Cain will use nukes if he is elected President.

He has the right sense of things in his mind, ie. the evil empire is still there, etc., to justify that; he is 100 per cent a militarist not just crooked and stupidly moronic ie. Baby Bush Fuck.

Danger, danger, indeed. Career officers in both the Army and Navy have wanted to test small nukes going back 30 years, somewhere. Mc Cain will let them.

The recent surge of Russian Nationalism, totally to be predicted, has these people afire with a new cold war looming.

Danger indeed.

The act of veto seems purely political for Bush. He "vetoes" any bill he wants with a signing statement.

Those of you who think this is a political strategy by McCain--it's not. He's a vicious, violent man; it's tempered by a sense of humor, sure, but he's angry at his core. His first instinct is to torture the bad guys. The only reason he's vacillated in the past is because of his own experience, but not because he sees torture as wrong but because he knows that when we torture, we encourage others to torture. I think he's moved past that now.

Speaking of McCain, when will we hear again about his disasterous part in the savings and loan fiasco that left tax payers with hundreds of billions of dollars in loses from Republican supporting thieves. Many of whom, if not most, are still on the loose and spending the money living in luxury.
