Go ahead and Google it. It takes a pretty good grasp of organic chemistry to really understand all the details, but, in a nutshell: nylon was invented in 1938. In the 1980s, a bacteria was discovered that could produce what's been called nylonase - an enzyme that allows the bacteria to digest nylon. Miracle!
