Why I Caucused for Barack Obama

posted by on January 4 at 17:15 PM

Stranger Iowa caucus correspondent (aka Iowa caucus voter and former Stranger news intern) Sarah Mirk has an article up on our home page about her caucus day decision to leave Edwards’ progressive specifics behind for Obama’s candidacy of hope.

Hope may not be a policy but it is something this nation, and this world, has been without for too long.

Trying to parse out policy nuances among the D candidates is a waste of time. Health care or (name your issue) is not going to be resolved in the West Wing -- the whole Hillarycare episode proved that.

Progress requires some give-and-take among the President and Congressmen and Senators. Read the recent piece on how Obama created his legislative successes in Illinois.

As this year is shaping up, we're either voting for the future or voting for the past. Obama IS the future.

Yes, he's a nice man. No doubt. He can build consensus. Wonderful! He has good intentions. Superb! I'd like him to be my neighbor or my uncle but not my president.
ps. Hope was the Kerry/Edwards catchphrase last time around. Obama must have liked it.
