See, that's what I mean about Steve Scher. If it was the Conversation guy, he'd be saying "so, does that mean you think people who use parks should be put in jail?"
Pocket parks are an interesting idea in New York City, not Seattle, where there is already too much waste ground.
If KUOW running a huge surplus and is able to launch additional HD channels, the sad truth must be that listeners around here want to hear about the generally asinine subjects chosen for Weekday and The Conversation.
KUOW and Steve don't want to be too radical, too controversial, too screaming left wing. It would drive away money.
That's too bad. I mostly find KIRO dull, but I do listen to Goldy's show. I guess informed local people concerned with local politics just ain't their target demographic. Or something.
I'm in favor of pocket parks, because every neighborhood should have a place where people can be harassed by panhandlers and drug dealers.
Careful, Dan -- you're getting awfully close to the tenor of the comments taking you to task for slogging entertainment and personal randomness instead of whatever breaking news story is obsessing them. Radio ought to be able to cover more than one thing at a time too.
Not to defend Steve Scher or anything.
I know there's a lot of fondness for old Steve, but I can't stand to listen to him. He's the worst interviewer ever, with his casual, chill-guy approach. He's truly incompetent. Or barely competent. Whatev.
Dan, if you want to get the blood boiling, you should give KIRO's sister station KTTH a listen during the late evening to hear Michael Savage's latest tirades against the gay agenda. My ears were melting last night listening to him shriek about The Gays...
Don't you people start being mean to Steve Scher. Let's just NOT go there... I mean, even slog has it's limits, right?
@8: Michael Savage is hilariously over the top. If he were doing what he does as satire, it would be brilliant.
KUOW will also be interviewing the Skillet guys today too. Heard the promo last night but can't remember which show.
But instead of Goldy, we get repeats of TBL!!!!!!!
With the Mormons, it's all about the bottom line. I want more investment advice.
Perhaps give Goldy and his Stranger staff faves a podcast?
Repeats of TBTL!?!? I can hardly stand to listen to it live (except the one night Kelly O was on talking about drunks of course). I guess I'll have to go back to listening to music in the car.
I have it on good authority, that Kurt Russell has a hard time sleeping without his Goldie.
kudos @ 6. just because it is not sexy, sensational, or "the absolute most important topic in the world" does not mean air space should not be given for it. believe it or not, not all people like politics all the time. (i for one would love to see more pocket parks in seattle.)
remember the constitution, dan. remember free speech.
Dan, did you ever listen to The Stranger Hour on Saturday night? No, I didn't think so.
Who wants to listen to ECB, The Stranger's resident harpy, KIRO's equivalent of Joni Balter, on Saturday night? Who wants to listen to Josh, The Stranger's stuttering manic on Saturday night?
David's problem was he didn't invite Kelly O on as a guest, unlike Luke and Jen, who seem to be succeeding at KIRO.
