Nice.
Who?
i bet they were both thinking...shit a blacked out celebrity with a history of drug abuse, how can we cover this up?
Apparently none of them were the clever smart people we were lead to believe they were.
@3, I doubt that the masseuse was thinking that, because she did call 911 (and it's gonna get her in a shitpile of trouble, cuz she was unlicensed in NY - a felony). But I have little doubt that's what MKO was thinking.
agree with 3 -- they all had publicity on the brain, even the masseuse. i don't think either of them first thought he was dead... just drugged up and unresponsive. perhaps requiring a good stomach pumping that i'm sure they're all used to having to call in for.
My confusion is: what was Ledger doing dating MKO?
@7: That, I think, is the REAL mystery here.
This would be even funnier than it is, if it weren't so deadly accurate...
So I know this is a bit off topic, but Shirley from the Westbro Church was on a radio show this morning talking about Heath Ledger/Britney Spears/homosexuality/her illegitimate children, etc.
Pretty sad.

as a celeb, I'm sure she's used to getting calls about pals OD'ing. And this is how celebs handle shit. They keep it quiet as possible. She didn't know he was dead or how serious it was cuz she wasn't there. So she did what any other celeb would do, call in their own security, take him to their own doc...etc. Anything to keep it out of the papers.
Now the masseuse..she's the one you should be questioning. She saw how bad off he was. Instead of dialing 911 she takes the time to call a friend of his for help?
Totally agree with @11.
When that horrible truth is facing you, your mind runs away from it. You don't believe he's dead, even though he's cold and blue. Your mind lets you ratchet the situation down one notch to the second-most plausible possibility (he's waaay od'd), away from the obvious one (he's dead).
I have sympathy for both of them.
Imagine all this brouhaha if it were Philip Seymour Hoffman found naked and O.D.-dead. The press coverage would extend to "Eccentric character actor has expired, but who cares about fatties anyway? Not us. Next: Britney's episiotomy, exclusive!"
Heath Ledger was not a great actor. He was just a rich kid with inherited cheekbones and sadly low self-esteem. He was a bimbo with enough self-awareness to feel bad about it. He was on drugs to cope, and why not? He could afford a habit. The sad irony is that he ended up O.D.ing on prescribed sleeping pills used to counteract the coke.
Funny stuff, but it also could have been an honest mistake. Perhaps the masseuse had a copy of this at home.

I was in a shuttle on the way to the airport from Park City with three publicists as this story was unfolding. It was fantastically dramatic and titillating to get text by text updates read aloud to the whole van of passengers making their exodus out of Sundance. Entertainment is such an odd and base business.
