The overall reasoning may be stupid, but the hating Huckabee and Romney part makes perfect sense.

More bad news for Huckabee: Even the lizard that lives in his brain can't stand his crazy lies anymore and it tore out his asshole during its escape. Now Hucks really has problems.

McCain is barely Republican and he needs Huckster on the ticket to keep the South or try to stop a 3d party.
Huckster is working hard, has a job, with a future: VP. If he drops out he's like Edwards: no future in politics. Edwards' dude is on TV right now saying Edwards will have lots of delegates and will be an important player at the convention .......

It seems to me that many of those Huckabee delegates could wind up going to Romney anyway if Huck drops out. Am I wrong? Or is Huckabee going to cut a deal with one of the other candidates before he drops out, encouraging Huck delegates to vote for X? This seems more likely to me - that Huck is staying in the race for the same reason Edwards is (using delegates as a bargaining chip).

These primary affairs seem like they could get far more complicated than the news stories seem to acknowledge.

If Huckabee's going to be VP for the republicans, his whole spiel about the Confederate Flag and states rights, especially in regards to the Civil War, will definitely be used by the Dems against him and will definitely hurt him and whoever is running for president. All we need now is a video clip or sound bite of him spouting racist things that'll be used against him and the Republican party.

Remember the Civil War was really a war about what to do with slavery. states rights included the right to own slaves and the laws to control their lives. there were laws on the books that forbid slaves from learning how to read and write for fear that they would be as intelligent as their owners and the whites and overthrow the states since Blacks where 80% of the population in most southern states at that time. Even the laws for a few years after the Civil War forbade blacks, especially former slaves, from taking literacy classes. I learned this from my great-great aunt who's father, my great-great grandfather came down from the North and taught off-shore literacy classes to former slaves and their descendants.

I'm guessing that Fuckabee's going to drop out if he loses all or the majority of the Southern states by a large margin. It's scary that he was 2nd in SC. After seeing Savage on Real Time with Bill Maher, I wasn't surprised to see SC hasn't changed since I left.

I wish it weren't this way, but the Confederate Flag, pro-state's rights tirades and spouting racist slurs are blazingly successful, time-tested, and virtually guaranteed strategies for successfully winning elections in the good ole US of A.

Hucks also has shown an undeniable talent for corralling the Nutcase Bible Zombie Vote which is mega-supremo importante to the Republicans.

Trust me: It'll be ________/Huckabee '08.

Huckabee is definitely going to be the VP candidate, but not under McCain. It's gonna be under Romney. This is going to be a brokered convention on the GOP side, and Romney's a businessman. He's going to buy the appropriate delegates, and the VP spot is the price that he'll pay to Huckabee. Huckabee will provide cover for Romney's religion, and Romney will provide Huckabee cover for his economic populism.

And their mutual hatred won't matter. Remember, they're after power, and will do what it takes to get the power.

Is Huckabee for VP really worrisome? Except for Cheney, the traditional role of the VP is a warm body to send to funerals for foreign heads of state, yes? Anyone remember anything notable thatthat Mondale ever did? Or that clown Quayle?

Huckabee is going to stay in to trade his delegates to McCain for the VP slot. He is already acting like VP -- sucking up to McCain and attacking Romney -- the guy who lays you off, he said.

McCain needs someone to the right of him because McCain is not sufficiently to the right.

(apres toi, you are right, but it is a sad fact that the flag comments will be deftly used as code words for the GOP to win all the South and all the rednecks across amurka. As J. Carville said, Pennsylvania is just Philly and Pittsburgh with a great big Mississippi in between).

@7, Edwards will stay in for the same reason. Hoping he can win enough delegates to be kingmaker, and in exchange, get VP. Or at least a cabinet spot. If he can't do that he's out of all politics forever, basically.

Bonus for the McCAin-HFuckster ticket: the strongest tickets in the last 50 years are a southerner plus a westerner. And McCain-Huckabee is one tough ticket for us to fight, because it nails down the right wing for the GOP but also is expandable into the middle by having McCain..McCain basically needs a right wing candidate to sell out to him and validate him and get him out of a plurality lead to a majority in the delegate count, and Huckster is just the judas (to the right wing) to do so, and be convincing about it.

Well, taking someone who believes in changing the Constitution to God's standards and placing him second in line to lead our country seems pretty scary to me.
