Similarly, some candidates do not wear coats because because their staff thinks this makes them look more strong, hearty, able to take cold air, contributing to a general opinion that their candidate is stronger or healthier than the other candidates.

Me? Ex-midwesterner? I think they should put their damn coats on. Getting sick is not going to make the campaign trail any easier in the long run, and we all know that it's cold. Duh.
