DUI Checkpoints: Washington Governor Christine Gregoire has backed a proposal to establish checkpoints around the state to catch drunk drivers. 225 drunk-driving-related fatalities were recorded in Washington in 2006, making it the 36th worst drunk-driving death state in the country. Currently, 29 states and Washington, D.C. allow DUI roadblocks, but, according to a 1988 ruling, Washington’s constitution only allows motorists to be stopped when there’s suspicion that the driver has done something wrong. Civil liberties advocates say they would prefer a legal alternative: increased DUI patrols that stop drivers who appear impaired. Nevertheless, the proposal, endorsed by the PI, will...

If it passes, I’m sure we can count on Black and Latino people driving old cars to sail through the checkpoints while white people in nice cars are questioned and their cars are scanned for suspicious contents…

I'm not necessarily for the checkpoints, but I did read in an article about this that they would have to use some kind of objective standards like stop every car or stop every 4th car, not just randomly picking...

"Alcohol is a heck of a lot worse than marijuana"
NOT TRUE!

You have forgotten the best speech EVER by Jack Webb from Dragnet about Alcohol vs. pot
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Twre6ItGEI

Harry Morgan of Dragnet use to say that low amounts of alcohol can be taken in moderation and one can maintain the ability to drive but even a little bit of pot affects one's judgement, timing and the ability to drve. There is no moderation with pot. At least that's what Harry Morgan use to say.

Why not first DUI = mandatory 5 year no probation?
Gets the real boozers off the roads and lets the rest of the world live unimpeded.

Sorry, Christine

"Your papers, please".

Gee, I wonder if Gregoire might pushing for the DUI checkpoints so that state and local government can get more grant money from the the Feds? In addition to any revenue that might slop in from fines and confiscated vehicles.

Comment by Green Cookie Monster

This thing about Meth-Laced ectsacy being stupid news - maybe it's not so stupid...

Laced ecstacy is a very big deal right now.

For the first time, more than half of the 'ecstasy' tablets being seized are laced with methamphetamine. A few years ago, this statistic was somewhere around one third of all seizures.

And methamphetamine is not the only danger. PMA - a very dangerous drug that is known for causing overdoses and deaths - is also being found more commonly in street 'ecstasy' tablets.

A recent statistic from Australia claims that only as few as one in five 'ecstasy' tablets even contains real MDMA.

This has lead to a dramatic increase of overdoses as recreational customers who were used to being able to eat several tabs in one night, are overdosing and in some cases dying from eating just a few tabs.

This has been happening throughout the world. Notable overdoses have been reported from Canada and Australia.

Even locally, a girl in the Seattle dance music scene passed away last Summer from consuming what was believed to be only two tabs. This is aside from the recent New Year's passing that involved only what was supposedly one or two tablets.

Pure MDMA is not known to cause these kinds of reactions unless the person consuming it has an extremely rare sensitivity to the substance (and by extremely rare, we are talking along the lines of one in a million).

The research is has been done. This info is not too hard to find. The statistics are in the Google.

The point is: people who want to use street 'ecstasy' need to know about this.

'Ecstacy' really is more dangerous than ever.

Don't eat press tabs unless you are confident that you or someone you honestly can trust with your life, has manufactured them or knows about their entire contents.

Its way damn risky now.

And this really sucks, cause it's not the ecstasy that is the real danger to the people - it's the profit minded adulterants that are the result of a very powerful black market that is being generated by a very unfortunate and dishonest drug war.

This is not an anti-e message at all. MDMA is an amazing substance with plenty of potential for human benefit. The modern professional psychological field is finally even starting to admit this as new tests and clinical trials are being conducted after many years of being blacklisted.

The point is, don't partake unless you really know what it is that you are putting in your body.

You have more than a fifty percent likely hood to be consuming meth if you choose to eat street grade ecstasy tablets right now.
