Orson Wells was a moron. David Lynch is a genius. Lindy West is cool.

I like how oddly non-committal the quote is -- "A great definitive Gold Set", leaving open the possibility of other, better Gold Sets that they might have compiled.

Why didn't I read your review before I saw "Waitress"? Why? There are things seared into my brain that I don't think can ever be unseared, and it was all so unnecessary.

There was a lot of blood and tears that went into making that box set materialize in our lifetimes.

Well, Twin Peaks had been dicked around by the studios for a long time. The most obvious example being that different companies owned the pilot episode and the entire rest of the series. So if you bought the original set of Twin Peaks, it started off with the second episode, you know, after that whole Laura Palmer being found dead thingy.

The point being that David Lynch thinking this is a good set actually has some merit, since previous efforts were rather flawed due to powers beyond his control.

What I think is great is the complete lack of enthusiasm that Lynch appears to have in the quote.

"I think" = not 'I know" or simply 'this is'

"definitive" = explicit

"Twin Peaks Gold Set" = the only Twin Peaks Gold Set

Anyway, the quote is very Lynch. I have the Gold Set and have watched the entire thing. I think it is pretty great!

eh...mountains and molehills...I think he's referring to the fact that the process to get ALL of Twin Peaks into 1 master DVD set was a laborous one and that he liked the final packaging of the product...i don't think he's being a horse's ass with that comment.

Orson Welles WAS a mess, Mr Poe, but Citizen Kane still kicks ass.

Citizen Kane is the worst movie of all time.

I like the idea of David Lynch being lukewarm about the release (FUCKING FINALLY) of the box set of the second season.

"Um, yeah, cool. Thanks studio." --David Lynch

I also like to think that maybe David Lynch forgot there was a second season and he was surprised to see it on his doorstep one day.

@7 is right. Twin Peaks was almost released on DVD years ago (season 2 just came out in the US for the first time on DVD last spring, and this is the first box set). The project was pushed back several times because Lynch was unhappy with the production quality of season one and worried about how the studio would produce season 2. There were also disputes about what content would be released on the DVDs and multiple studio sales and transfers of who owned the material. Finally, Lynch has control of the material and has put out an edition that has his stamp of approval. That's what the quote is about. It's not stroking his own ego, it's telling the longtime fans they can finally trust this edition of the box set.

@3: God yes. I can't believe how many positive reviews (from usually reliable sources) that piece of tripe received. I will never see another movie without checking Lindy's review first.

I second the comment @7. Twin Peaks fans have waited a long while for the definitive collection and there's good reason to have the David Lynch stamp of approval on the back.

Yes, this is a terrible slog post.

He is commenting on the quality of that SET. If you bought the other dvds and maybe even the VHS set(s) and compared them with the current one, you too would be elated, even if you were the person responsible for the series in the first place.

His statement is not the same thing as your mom calling you cool.

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, I know, I know, I know. I've been waiting as long as you guys for this box set. But I STILL think this is funny. Lynch sounds like he made that statement at knifepoint, and they executed it so clumsily that it DOES come off as a "My mom says I'm cool" situation. Quit taking yourselves so seriously, dudes.

I like the framing job you guys did on La Gioconda! Four stars!
