NO IT IS NOT! Cloverfield is the most stressful movie I have ever seen! Between the way-too-real camcorder filming techniques and the film’s intense similarity to a recurring dream I have when I am running from something really scary with a million other people in the middle of a city, I have never spent so much time biting the back of a Cinerama seat.
Some people might like that. I was literally shaking the entire walk home.

Also, I thought "Cloverfield" was a helluva lot of fun to watch. Scary, intense and a good time.
I'm not planning on ever seeing this film, but I'm glad it was made; just so that Manohla Dargis could give it one of the most pleasurably viscious reviews I've seen in the NYT in a long while.

It's the Shaky Cam aspect that's keeping me away. I nearly threw up at Blair Witch, and I'm not eager to repeat the experience.
There are warnings all over theatres advising people with certain conditions against seeing it. It gave me horrible anxietyy and I delighted in every second of it. The most intense movie experience I've ever seen.
Not since Short Round and Indy rollercoastered through the mineshafts has a movie been so staggeringly white knuckle.
aren't monster movies supposed to make people stressed and uncomfortable? just saying.

You want to be stressed, go rent Blackhawk Down. There were some good parts of Cloverfield, but it just about put me to sleep a couple times..
I thought it was boring and stupid.
Good call, Gitai@3--I was stuck in the middle of packed row at the Cinerama praying I wouldn't throw up on the person in front of me. The parts of the movie I peeked at through my fingers were great, though.
My only complaint was that the CINERAMA had it way too loud and not worth $10.25.
Other than that I thought it was cool
See the matinée at Pacific Place - 6$ and that's about all it's worth. They're showing it in the big theater; I would have been kinda pissed if I had paid 10.25$ It's good but I just couldn't suspend my disbelief.
There are flaws in the movie. Charachters aren't developed much, nor do they have much instinct for self preservation etc. But on the whole the movie has a haunting effect. How would you act if this was you last day?
The Monster is also problematic. Maybe it is multidimensional. Maybe it regenerates. Nobody knows.
Most of all who are those people at the Cinerama who can't stay seated for 90 Minutes.
I saw this movie early Fri morning and I am *still* fucked up from it. Scariest thing I've seen since John Carpenter's "The Thing."
What gets me the most of the drumbeat of doom throughout the movie, the sound of the monster's rampage (near or far) combined with the sounds of the military's response.
If you're going to see this movie, see it some place with a good sound system.
I also agree with the comments about the Cinerama audience. They seemed rowdier and stupider than usual. What gives?
Mothra could have kicked Cloverfield's ass in TWO SECONDS. Stupid giant flea or whatever.
