Tom Cruise sucks.

He does sound nuts, but is he any more nuts than a Catholic singing about "a lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world?" I mean is the "trinity" any mre credible than Xenu?

@2 - no. I would love to see a steel cage 2 men enter one man leaves death match between Cruise and Mel Gibson. I guess Scientology doesn't have 2 millenia of history behind it to make it seem plausible.

yeah, this is crazy stuff, but no crazier than any Mormon/New Age/Catholic/Baptist/et cetera propaganda video I've seen

All religions are stupid. Add some creepy music and timely editing and any of them will sound "terrifying".

I gots to agree w/ heather...I mean, he comes across to me as a worshiper who truly believes in his form of religion. That doesn't mean it doesn't look misguided to me (I'm agnostic)...but I wouldn't say it's batshit crazy. Just picture a Priest or Rabbi talking about the power an virtues of their religion...same difference.

The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit all agree. Tom Cruise is a weirdo.

Well, he's holding on to his looks, but he's as inarticulate as ever. Seems to me if he really wanted to effectively help people, he'd give money directly to causes instead of filtering through The Church of Scientology - which is a very wealthy, land-rich organization.

Famous Scientologists are the engine now of that cult. Read Scientologists in Hollywood from last week's New Yorker to discover how L. Ron Hubbard said that getting famous names associated with Scientology was key in the survival of the organization. Then read about all they own in Hollywood.

Tom Cruise is trapped in the closet, and he won't come out, we all tried to get'm out the closet, but we couldn't get'm out the closet, SO I PULLED OUT MY GUN...

I don't get it -- what's the big deal about this video? He's not saying anything I haven't heard a bazillion Christians say. All religious people think their religion is the only real one, and that their religion is the only way to save people and bring the world happiness. Why is everybody so shocked about this video? I totally don't understand. He sounds the same as every other religious baffoon to me.

Well, as someone who comes from an evangelical background, I understand the comments re 'all religions sound like this.' However, he is blathering on with such vagueness that he sounds thought-disordered--and I've heard Christian nuts sound like this as well. My point is, I think he is crazy, but it's not only because of 'religion.' There are intelligent and articulate religious people who don't sound like they have paranoid schizophrenia. Thomas Merton, for example. Well, he's dead, but you get my point.

"you know you're the only one who can really help... We are the way to happiness. We can bring peace and unite cultures."

Wait - Is that Tom Cruise or Barack Obama?

He appears to be trapped inside a role.

It has been a couple hundred years since any Christian church was as bad as Scientology. Protestant and Catholic churches rarely want more than half of all your material possessions and don't make you cut off contact with any and all family members who are "suppressive".

As bad as the Catholic League is, it doesn't have agents track and intimidate ex-Catholics and nosy journalists.

In answer to the question "Is this any crazier than any other religion?" -- YES. IT IS. A LOT.

Lola @12 is right, but there's more. For one, most mainstream religions are ancient, and surrounded in myth. It's understandable, if not rational, to go along with these traditions and rituals. They come from some "other" time, long long ago. Scientology, on the other hand, was invented by a pathological liar about 40 years ago. We know who he was - he was a SCIENCE FICTION AUTHOR - and he has been quoted as saying, "If you want to get rich, start your own religion." This stuff isn't some story passed down over hundreds of generations, it's something that happened within many of our lifetimes, and it's been documented. For people like Cruise to take what this crackpot made up and make it their life's work is several orders of magnitude more psychotic than someone who believes in mainstream Christianity. The core beliefs might not be objectively more or less insane on their own, but accepting them most certainly is.

Scientologists are nuts. Trust me, I know this.

"when you [a scientologist] see and accident, you know you have to stop, because you are the only one who can help" i'm paraphrasing slightly here. but what does he mean by this? non-scientologists can't give cpr or call 911 or make a stop the bleeding? or does he mean that only a scientologist would be able the provide the life-saving copies of l. ron hubbards books to the vicitm?

He's laughing so much, you can tell Cruise doesn't believe his own words.

@23 - he's trying to say he's from a Mountain state, like IA, MT, CO, or BC - people in mountainous regions know they have to help, because it might be days before the next person comes along.

But the way he says it is code for "I'm a Person, and you're an Animal".

You have to grok Scientology speak.

@23, I thought he was referring to his own press about having stopped to help someone, and how doing things like that is good PR for Scientology. Or something; really he honestly doesn't sound any more insane or desperate to me than an average Microsoft middle manager struggling to make sure he uses all five of the week's hot Micro-speak terms in a conversation, without regard to having to make any actual sense.

Poor Tom. You can see the hamster wheels spinning in his brain, but there's no belt connecting them. Craziness of Scientology aside, it's clear that the Scientologists broke Tom's brain.

"There are times I'd like to go on vacation, or get away, and, you know, and just, like, romp and play.....but, I can't...because...(whispering, looking around, paranoid) ...they're watching me- they're always watching me!"

He keeps using emphasis on a few words to sound like he gets something we all don't. He is such a bad speaker. He really says nothing but tries to sound like he is saying something. All this laughing and adding fake dramatic effect to his voice is anoying.
His arrogance rules him.

@23- According to Rick Ross (Rick Ross Institute for the Study of Destructive Cults, Controversial Groups and Movements)
He's referring explicitly to "Touch Assists," wherein Scientologists believe that they can heal injured individuals simply by putting their hands on people. They even have "Volunteer Ministers" who show up at the sites of major disasters (9/11, the Virginia Tech massacre) wearing bright yellow vests trying to "address trauma." That's why he thinks that he's the only one who can help.

So he actually truly believes that just by laying his hands on someone he can heal them? Wow. No wonder he acts so cocky.

For all of you who think religions are fake, clearly, you are getting confused thinking that Scientology is a religion. I have heard Tom Cruise speak on Scientology and never mentioned God. Christian faiths have a common belief, Jesus Christ. They may disagree on many minor things, but they all agree on the major stuff. That being said, there is a difference between Christianity and Scientology, a big difference. And as for you that think that they are teh same thing, next time you are in a bind, and you don't know which direction to turn call on L.R. Hubbard and see if anything happens. If he answers, then I would call the National Enquirer myself, because he can't help you any more than an ant carrying a boulder. But as a matter of fact, if you call on Jesus at that time, who is 'the Lamb of God who takes away the Sin of the World', then you will be okay. Scientology doesn't have much of a leg to stand on, but there is no need to be bashing Christianity. Maybe we should call Scientology a Celeb club, which is what it is in appearance and in fact.
