The State of Our Union Is…. ?

posted by on January 28 at 16:25 PM

Bush’s last SOTU speech is less than two hours away and the advance excerpts, as usual, are being released.

Don’t forget the liveblog/group-watch. It all begins at 6 p.m. PST.

I'd rather follow the liveblog than watch the actual Address. The man's voice grates on me like pebbles in a blender.

Do you think he's fucking Pelosi?

I can't believe anybody is covering this.

Why bother?

I'll watch the Daily Show recap, can't stand GWB live any more, even with the drinking game (which gets me toasted in 5 minutes nowadays, one drink per lie).

I´ve never gotten people watching this. I was on a panel at UW a few years back just after one, and when I said I never watch (Bush´s, that is) people acted like I was an ignoramus. What is the point? To parse the latest version of the lies this administration spouts like a technicolor yawn? If there was any hope that anyone would do anything rude, that their outrage would lead them to go all Stephen Colbert/Gridiron on his ass, I might take a peek. But the polite applause and the hearty applause are both sickening. Am I missing something?

Yeah, catching him in lies (that the media ALWAYS ignores) during speeches just isn't that fun anymore.

Just don't get high before watching it. I made that panic-attacky mistake last year.

You can see inside his head when you're high. And he's in worse shape than you.

#6: Good question. I would normally miss it tonight, but I plan to watch it. Here's why:

1. Other countries pay attention to our president; probably smart to know what he's saying.

2. Ignorance is not strength, meaning, even though we assume we know what he's going to say, it's more powerful to actually know what he said.

3. It's interesting to imagine the words with someone else saying them. i.e. imagine Barack saying the same words; would sound different?

even the first line of the speech is going to be a lie this time, the state of our union is not strong, frankly it's crappy.

multiple and systemic economic troubles (the dollar, lending crisis, market failures),

foreign policy troubles (Middle East Iraq, Turkey, Iran, Kurdistan, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Latin America Venezuela, Bolivia, the list goes on and on)

Oh and Bush II single handedly killed "The Special Relationship" with the UK

Strong my ass

Not watching. No one gives a shit what the man has to say anyway; it is of no consequence. The world is just praying that the economy fails to collapse in spite of him and no one gets accidentially nuked.

I hate to bring up a Moore movie but...anyone remember the F 911 when it showed Rice, Bush and some others getting ready for the camera, getting their hair brushed and makeup done? That's probably being filmed as we wait for the SOTU. Bush's voice grates my nerves too, but I'm willing to read the slog anyway to find out what he said.

i would really love for him to say, "the state of our union is actually not so hot at the moment, as you may have noticed..."

I'd like to think that's vodka he's sipping.

I only try and pick fair fights, ECB clearly bests me as a feminist, and has stronger admin powers
