I've been reading all of Erica's well-reasoned and strong arguments for Senator Clinton, some of which make perfect intellectual sense, but I think the fact that Obama makes me want to run out and save the world after hearing him speak matters. It matters.
I know laws are forever and outlive the nice words of politicians, but after living through eight years of utter demoralization, Obama's message is hitting the right bell for me. It's more than just lawmaking. The president's job is more than policy. This candidate--Obama--can unify the country. Clinton cannot and is not.
I have to think that in every Democrat is at least a fragment of a person who wants to be part of something thrilling and historic, an underdog on the rise and a sense of possibility. The gray voices that say grow up, Hillary has all the connections and knows how to throw elbows are just depressing. Doesn't even a small part of the psyche of HRC's fans see this level of excitement and feel at least a little thrilled?
Yeah, did you guys see the piece on that New Hampshire dinner speech? Clinton received sustained applause. Obama got a riotous response. A devoted Clinton supporter was quoted as saying "you know, he just about changed my mind."
Great speech. You know, Bill Clinton is known for making great speeches, but I really don't want to hear about Bill Clinton everyday for the next four years. As much as I liked him as president, as much as Hillary would be a good president, symbolically, they are the same. At this point in history, Barack would be a better president than both of them combined.

Grampa McCain aint endorsing anything except what his Republican Handlers tell him to. Just like how he supported the Gulf War Disaster and continues to...
"The president's job is more than policy. This candidate--Obama--can unify the country."
Not just the country. We've got a lot of bridges to mend with the rest of the world. The most important issue for me in this election is how good of a face the future president will put on our nation. Obama, to me, would make me proud to be American.

Oh my God, it's good to be back home at Slog. I just spent a good part of the last hour checking out the right wing blogs. These morons are scared shitless of Obama since they think he has the best chance of winning against Grandpa McCain, Huckleberry Hound, or the guy who believes in magic underwear. That should tell you something.
Now excuse me while I go take a bath in a tub full of Lysol.
Since this is the closest thing to an open thread on Clinton and Obama...
Tell me how entertaining it would be to listen in on that supposed phone call this weekend between Bill Clinton and Teddy Kennedy.
I'm sure it was all dressed up in pretty and polite language, but it sure sounds as though Teddy gave Bill shit about the way he treated Obama in South Carolina.
@16: no shit! I would love to hear a tape of that call. I'm not even sure it was dressed up in pretty language...Teddy can be pretty damn profane and to the point.
Have you noticed that Obama throws a little Southern lilt to his words every once and a while, which doesn't make any kind of sense considering he's from Hawaii and Chicago.
Will he be packing at the next hip hop night?

And ecce:
As a favor to me, help me understand your comment so I don't just conclude it's racist bullshit.

@2:
"unify the country"--
I guess you heard it too,
that McCain is endorsing Obama, too?
@7: Is McCain bowing out? Why would he endorse someone else for President?

It's time to select a President for America, not one for last decade.

@8
Obama is going to "unify the country." See @2.
I don't know what that means if it doesn't mean the Republican candidates will join in supporting him.
We'll all be unified. Like we were in the general elections that elected Lincoln and JFK. Remember?
He should have thrown in a Howard Dean like "HHEEEEYAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" at the end of that.

One more thing, I forgot: Andy J. @4, please don't feed the trolls.

Eat it, Bill! Snap!

#2 nailed it.
