The New York Press Thing

posted by on January 24 at 16:40 PM

Uh… things have been nuts today, and I’m just now getting to my emails. About eight million people have sent me this link. And this one. And this one. And this one. And this one. And now this one.

At the moment I have no comment. Carry on.

What a scandal of epic proportions! I certainly hope we're kept up to date on every new development here!

its nice to be talked about, isn't it?

How unimaginative do you have to be to overlook a) making up questions or at least b) taking the premise of the Savage Love questions and rewriting them?

Seriously.

Yep, you definitely have the best perv readers in the country. So instead of bitching about the eight million emails a day you get, you should be grateful for those people - they're the reason why you're making the big bucks.

well maybe i'll just write you an email, then get it answered by both you and that bitch!

See? I don't hang around The Big Blog just so I can send that dreamy Monica Guzman mash notes. I'd have had to wait all day before this news showed up on the Slog.

"Lonow was "unaware that using questions from Savage's column was a breach of journalism ethics," reads the statement from editor David Blum."

WHAT?! Seriously? She was "unaware"? I mean that just seems like common sense to me.

@ this (already dead) issue, har har.

@ the graphic: I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd pay good money to see a cartoon of YOU naked on a giant honeymoon ottoman rolling in your own filthy letters. Maybe it could be a Strangercrombie 2008 entry??

What I think is funny is that something similar to this happened last year and nobody seemed to have noticed. (Probably because nobody reads that paper) At least this lady had the decency to resign.

@11 - The Uptight column in the Weakly? That was also my first thought when I read this post.

The fact that Stranger staffers didn't post about it on Slog probably meant that nobody noticed or cared (it works, ECB).

By the way, the Weakly has better cartoons than the Stranger. Just sayin'.

What the hell? Is she blowing her nose on a letter while simultaneously drafting a reply?

I thought you worked for the stranger and sold your column to the VV.

Now you are credited for working for the VV? Upping the credibility balance a little huh?

The Village Voice has less credibility than The Stranger.

"the work of Village Voice Media sex columnist Dan Savage"

Yeah, that stings. It's a sydicated column people.

Aww, come on, we are all waiting. (from the link you posted to Jesebel)

anyone know what Dan Savage has to say about this yet? mostly i'm curious b/c i know it will be something pithy scathing & good.
If Claudia was going to steal stuff she should have taken the answers too, 'cause hers was just lame.

Wow a plaigarism scandal caused by stupidity rather than bad ethics. That's refreshing!...?

Dan, are you going to parlay your newly acquired high profile in NY into a walk-on role in the "Sex and the City" movie?

That would be fabulous!

The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.

(Shamelessly plagiarized from Oscar Wilde...)

This is most attention NYPress has had in years. Also, it's more than the Village Voice deserves.

Dan, of course, is aces. If you're gonna steal, steal from the best...

I haven't seen anything on slog about Dan's comments beyond this posting, but the PI's big blog said Dan would've given the ex-columnist the letters. But that raises the question: once Dan receives a letter, is it his to do with what he wants, i.e., share them with whomever he wants - boyfriend, fan club, Lindy West - or should it be fairly implicit that when these people send their letters to Dan, they want Dan, and not some dumbass from LA or the guy that paid the Stranger to write the column this week from Strangercrombie?
