Was that John Mccain? I watched the debate and didn't hear that whisper, but other stuff was going on around me.

I remember McCain was standing next to Romney, who was on the end. It kind of sounds like McCain's voice, but everyone knows McCain hates Romney.

If it wasn't McCain, who the hell was it? We deserve to know!

I have been experiencing a very strange sense lately that whenever candidates say that they're not going to raise taxes, that it's like in elementary school when we were practicing government and the "candidates" would promise longer recesses and longer lunch periods.

@15-yes it is a clue so he doesn't look dumb. But, I think the real question is who said it. Apparently, his earpiece was on the same frequency as the moderators table-but his people deny it.

Microphones don't feed, they receive. He's talking into a microphone, and if he's got an ear speaker, that voice isn't coming from it. Sonically it's just impossible -- do you have any idea how loud an earbud would have to be to be picked up by the mike? It wouldn't sound like whispering. My guess is wireless interference picking up some other signal, but it could be as simple as McCain's mike that someone forgot to turn down.

Reagan raised the retirement age to 67 from 65 for most of us and introduced a 25 percent tax on social security benefits for (relatively) high-income retirees - the first substantive changes to this program since the 1970s when benefits were indexed to increase each year at the same rate of the cost of the living -- kind of significant revisions to a hugely successful program that proves that the US can reduce poverty (it cut the poverty rate of those over 65 from 22 percent to 11 percent with indexing). It's more than disturbing that a Presidential candidate did not KNOW this -- and it's truly bizarre that whatever policy wonk was whispering in his ear was just as ignorant. The fact that no one knew it was a tax further shows that there was little disagreement about taxing it either. Yikes...
