I don't think I've ever run into a 10-year-old while snowboarding, but that's impressive.

He'll be better than Dan in a year!

Wow, lets all post home videos now. Savage sinks to an all time low here. Pimping out his own son to, well, do what?
You are fast becoming the Britney Spears of Seattle.
Stick to sucking cock.

How the fuck is this pimping? How the fuck is this Britney Spears? He's on a snowboard, not a table of blow. Moron.

Oh, and sicfuc, feel free to post homevideos on your own blog, okay? I hear lots of people are using that nifty youtube thingy on the intertubes.

Oh, one more thing. It's fucking awesome that you people out there live near the damn mountains. The MOUNTAINS. I mean, look around you! Lucky ducks. We have cornfields and Detroit, yo. Shit.

Awwwww. That was sweet.

I'm impressed though with the musical choice. Yup, no guitar sounds either. Now I'm wondering when Dan will start a hip hop column.

Dude. He's a fucking dad. Of course he's gonna post videos of his kid when he's proud of him. Every parent would do this if given the opportunity.

i think it's cute. i wish i didn't live in florida, where it's a freaking trip to go snow boarding. haven't been in about 5 years.

of course, it was also 80 degrees on friday, and i laid out in the park while reading and throwing a ball for my dog.

He ADOPTED...

He may FEEL like the kids dad, but he isn't.

He is as much a dad as those little cunts who walk around the city with their designer dogs whom they refer to as their "kids".

This is just self serving. A pathetic attempt to appear to be a doding father.

That's what's great about Slog: light rail, presidential politics, porn, and a video of one of the owner's kids snow boarding.
Weird but good.

LEAVE DAN SAVAGE ALONE!

Kos posts pictures of his kids to his blog. Joshua Marshall posts picture of his kid to his blog. Atrios posts pictures of his cats to his blog. Aravosis posts pictures of his family at Christmas to his blog. Sullivan posts pictures of his beagles to his blog (also adopted, I presume). And on and on. I don't remember ever seeing Dan's son on Slog before.

One brief YouTube clip in, what, the three or more years that Slog been up and running? Can the haters give it a rest, please.

Your kid is quite the snowboarder, Dan. You must be proud. Which explains this post. Nothing explains or excuses the pathetic piece of shit that signs himself ecce homo.

Some of you people make me sick...

The guy just wanted to show off a video of his son doing something cool -what any proud father would do- and you wanna go and slam him for it?! That's complete and utter bullshit!

Oh, and while I'm at it...

@ 15:
OK, listen up you fucking asshole. I'm adopted. I was raised by two loving parents, and had it not been for them, God only knows where the fuck I would be now. Just because Dan's son is adopted, doesn't make Dan any less of a father. I don't know who the hell my birth father is, but that's fine by me, because I don't really give a shit. I was raised by a kind and generous man who was 10 times the father some of these sorry excuses for parents I see nowadays are. Just because Dan's sperm didn't create this kid, that had nothing with the love he feels for his son and his abilities as a father.

So for anyone who feels the need to slam poor Dan just for doing something any ordinary dad would do -be proud of his son- here's a tip: shut your fucking mouth and keep your derogatory comments to yourselves, bitches.

@19 No. He is going frontside. In snowboarding the name describes how you arrive on the rail, not which direction you are facing. So he arrived on the rail from the front, (watch that bit that says "ollie up" he turns forward 90 degrees into it), meaning even though his back is to the bottom of the rail, he is going "frontside".

Railslide? That stance is almost always called a boardslide. Weight evenly distributed on both sides of the rail.

Here is an exact description of what savage's kid did: http://www.ugo.com/channels/sports/features/trickguide/Video.aspx?cat=snowboarding&video=frontsideboardslidetofakie

They call it a "frontside boardslide to fakie".

Switch/fakie same dif.

There aren't many teens doing this as well as this kid does.

Good job little shredder!

@45 You don't know as much about Dan as you think. He did an open adoption (it's in his book, you know, the one about adoption dipshit.) Which means the birthmother picked him and his partner.

He didn't "pick" his son. They were chosen by the mother.

Ecce Homo, you bile-dripping turd. As a parent of 2 kids who were adopted (open adoptions, both) and one biological kid, and as someone who was around before, during and after Little Shredder's adoption, I know whereof I speak: Dan and Mr. Miller are as fine a set of parents as they come.

Do you have a clue what it means to be a parent? You think it's about replicating your miserable genes, leaving some sort of legacy, dragging your defects downline, hoping for something better one of these generations? It's about the kids, moron, a great many of whom would spend their childhoods in the State system (paid for by taxpayers), were it not for people with the guts to adopt. If you had an atom of compassion in your god-forsaken being, you might not find it such a lark to dump on couples (and singles, for that matter), gay, straight or indifferent, who, for one reason or another, can't simply breed their way to parenting, and turn to adoption, and discover by necessity what you evidently never have--parents are parents because they raise kids, not because they spawn them. If you have any questions, let me know, and I'll introduce you to my living, breathing, laughing, loving, struggling, striving, thriving "handbags," 16 and 14, who can definitely teach you a thing or two.

On second thought, I don't want you anywhere near them.

I know, I know--trolls, feeding, etc. Sorry.

And for everyone else on here, repeat after me--adoption is an event, not an affliction. Thus, "he was adopted." Not "he is adopted."

Posted by fixo | January 15, 2008 12:02 AM

Ecce, I think you just crossed out of any zone of decency. Unless you sat down with Dan and Terry and spoke with them several times throughout their adoption process you've got no fucking idea why or how they came to the decision to adopt.

My parents adopted a baby boy a few years back. He's not biologically related to any of us, in any way. His mother has no legal rights to him, and she doesn't know who his father is. That baby is my brother. He is as much my parents' child as I am. Not because of blood, or anything so ridiculous as an accident of birth, but because we choose to love him every single day.

Second parent adoption is a good thing too, but to your husband's child you're just as much a father as Dan is to DJ, or as my dad is to my little brother. How much is that?

Love is what matters in whether or not a person is family. I don't know Dan or Terry, so I can't tell you how much they love DJ, but I know my dad still has pictures I drew for him when I was three and just this weekend we added a picture my little brother drew for dad to that scrap book.

So yeah, my point is that you've got no idea about what's going through the Savage Family's minds so you've got no right to go spouting the bull shit you do. Beyond that your adopting your husband's child is the same as Dan adopting DJ or any other adoption. You're a man who has no biological relationship to that child.

Why do you love that child? Do you love them for themselves? For the years of interaction you had with them? Watching them grow and learn and change and take on characteristics from your husband, from you, from other relations?

Or do you love that baby because your husband donated the sperm that caused that baby to come into this world? Do you love that baby because of who its father is?

Parents who put kids in the public limelight are wrong. The kid has no choice. The kid has to please the parent, right? No matter how "eager" the kid is to have his pix on the internet, he really has no choice.

@38 Dan had to know that this would get some negative attention. There's always someone out there willing to criticize what he puts up (including me).

That said, this rules. It's like seeing the real Dan Savage and not the one he's created for the media. The man should be proud of his kid and when he does something cool, tell people about it. Too bad he can't show the kid the post thanks to sick fucks like sicfuc and ecce.

Putting the video up on YouTube was DJ's idea. His friends post videos of themselves to YouTube doing silly shit all the time. And I posted it here because 1. I think he rocks and 2. you can't see his face. We try to keep DJ's face out of the papers, off TV, etc.

And, actually, I didn't think there would be tons of negative attention. What's to object to here exactly? Plus it was the middle of the night--posted from South Carolina, so three hours later than the time stamp--and I figured, "what the hell?"
