What the fuck? Has Sigma Six invaded and taken Frank Blethen hostage?
I'm as shocked by this as I am about the layoffs at a dial-up internet provider I heard about.
In related news, the non-union component of the Times that does the online web presence was ...
Maybe they will fire their editorial writers now that they have rights to the NYT columnists.
Josh, Josh, Josh. Get over your obsession with bashing The Seattle Times. It's unbecoming. And juvenile.
Well, to quote someone from the paper, "The news could have been much worse."
And, they're "...glad, but not glad glad."
No biggie, as long as Pamela Sitt's job is safe.
Blethen spoke at my graduation from Western about the evils of the "rapacious capitalists." Little did we know he was talking from experience and not just about media consolidation.
And they STILL won't hire you, Josh, even at your low-low, non-union, bargain-basement salary. Besides, isn't it much more fun for you to be writing for print and posting your drivel on the Slog for the same low-low, non-union, bargain-basement salary you were getting before they started making you guys post shit here? Suck-airrrr.
Yeah, the Times is doing so badly Blethen just bought himself a fancy new Ferrari. Which he parks in the employee parking lot, for all his staff to see!

Say what you will about the Times (and P-I), but at least they pay their reporters a living wage, with decent benefits, etc. Ask the folks at the Stranger how their pay compares.
The Times can't afford to hire Josh. Hell, they can't afford to send out for pizza.
Bummer, Tony etc.: Josh picked your scab.
Maybe someone can open a living history museum and they can have a print newspaper exhibit to go along with the exhibits dedicated to blacksmiths, telephone operators, bustle makers and vaudeville performers.
@10 - exactly.
Want to be profitable? Cut exec and CEO pay and benefits.
Problem solved.
@11 -- a "living wage" at the Times? Where are you getting that information? Seattle Times reporters haven't had even a cost-of-living increase since the strike in 2001!
