@2 maybe so. a 13 year old might want sex with someone, maybe an adult. that is abuse, so, yes, the adult needs to do whats right. but it is difficult to understand exactly what this priest meant... and coming from the catholic church it is a bit... questionable. still, is there even no discussion on it? no one wants real abuse, certainly not 13 year olds.

That is the problem with abusers they believe some kids want it and they do not believe they are doing anything wrong. They believe they are comforters! That is the tricky thing about abuse, in the moment the victim may think it does feels good and the abuser is in heaven.
The consequences come later when the child feels trapped, confused and gets really messed up psychology.

This is the argument child molesters are going to try to use to make themselves sound like really good people. They claim the child asked for it.
I think it is very important to acknowledge that some kids may be very open to being abused, they may say it felt good but that does not make the argument right in any way. They are children under the protection of their parents and the law and adults have no right to sexually abuse a child.

These guys are so sick that the only reasonable option is to lock them up and keep them away from children.
It is an area I have little mercy in but I�m refraining from saying things like, hang the guy from his balls and hit him like a pi�ata until he is dead. Those kinds of things tend to provoke some people to get really angry or call me an overly moralistic nerd.
So I will just say lock him up and throw away the key. That is a nicer option.

The Catholic Church has been in the business of raping people for 2000 years, in some form or the other, (spiritually, financially and/or sexually) so we should consider them experts in the field.

Right on. I'll add that it's often impossible to determine consent when children have sex with adults. Not all child rape is forcible rape, many times kids will just go along with whatever an abuser tells them to do because they're scared or because it doesn't even occur to them that it's ok to say no.

I was 8 when I was raped by a priest, and I didn't ask for it. If some 13-14 years old want it-maybe. At that age your hormones are raging. Some priests (pedophiles) know that, and are more than willing to take advantage of it. The guilty here are the priests, not the children.

Ok, so I agree with the outrage here, BUT, (I may be in trouble with you guys for this), as a gay man, I DO remember having extremely intense crushes on several adult males when I was in junior high and high school. If I'd been straight, I would have been horrified to find an adult male making moves on me, but I'm not sure how I would have felt at the time if an attractive adult male had attempted something. In junior high, I probably would have felt violated regardless of the circumstances, but at 15 and 16, I was fooling around with other guys the way my straight male classmates were doing with other girls. So if a closeted, handsome male teacher had hit on me as a 16 or 17 yr old, I MAY have welcomed it. Of course, this is all theory on my part. I can't honestly say how I would have felt, but I do understand that a VERY SMALL number of gay teenagers MIGHT be interesting in having sex with men who are older. HOWEVER, I don't think that this rare phenomenon should be used to make exuses for abusive pedophiles who pray on confused teenagers in churches, schools, sports, scouts, etc...

The truth is, that when I was 15 years old I was answering ads in the personals section of the "Advocate" and sneaking off to Adult Bookstores and All Male Adult Cinemas. This was 30 years ago, by the way. I supply that for context. I was tall for my age, and could maybe pass for 18, but no one was getting too worked up about 'carding' me. But 15 is not 13, even though we all develop at a different rate. And just because a child has *normal,* *healthy* questions about their bodies, or sex in general, DOES NOT MEAN that adults in a position of trust and power are off the hook for abusing that power. Yes, young teens can be drunk on hormones and view the entire world through the lens of sex, and will push the limits. But *children* are not young teens, and while it's hard to draw these lines, we need to err on the side of protecting children from those who would abuse their positions of power. Honestly, I think it's the repression that creates the sickness -- but this Post is too long already to get into all *that*!
