Patty Murray About to Endorse?

posted by on January 29 at 9:47 AM

Sure sounds like it. From Anne Kornblut and Shailagh Murray at the Washington Post:

Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) refused to offer any observations about [Ted] Kennedy’s endorsement. “I’m staying out of the race between Obama and Clinton,” Reid said. But others appeared to be wavering. “I’ll be letting you know in the next couple of days,” said Sen. Patty Murray, a member of the Democratic leadership, whose home state of Washington will hold its Democratic caucuses Feb. 9.

Which counts for more: initial position on the war or womanhood? I’m gonna guess she’ll go for Clinton, but have it out in the comments.

Meanwhile, also via WaPo, it sure sounds like Bill Richardson is leaning Obama:

[H]e said he likes Obama, telling a story about how Obama saved him during one of last year’s Democratic debates:

“I had just been asked a question — I don’t remember which one — and Obama was sitting right next to me. Then the moderator went across the room, I think to Chris Dodd, so I thought I was home free for a while. I wasn’t going to listen to the next question. I was about to say something to Obama when the moderator turned to me and said, ‘So, Gov. Richardson, what do you think of that?’ But I wasn’t paying any attention! I was about to say, ‘Could you repeat the question? I wasn’t listening.’ But I wasn’t about to say I wasn’t listening. I looked at Obama. I was just horrified. And Obama whispered, ‘Katrina. Katrina.’ The question was on Katrina! So I said, ‘On Katrina, my policy …’ Obama could have just thrown me under the bus. So I said, ‘Obama, that was good of you to do that.’”

[…]

If Richardson is to endorse either Clinton or Obama — “I might, I might not, how’s that for an answer?” — he said he’ll do so by the end of the week.

“If I do endorse, it’s going to be a gut feeling. It’s not going to be about statistics, about past ties,” Richardson said. “I’ve been on the campaign trail with both of them. I feel that I know them. I feel I know the issues. I feel I know what makes them both tick.”

I have a feeling Richardson won't endorse. I think he knows he's very high on a short list of potential VP candidates so he doesn't want to risk not getting the VP slot.

Ties to Hillary aside, she's going to endorse whoever comes out as the frontrunner after Super Tuesday.

@2: The "next couple of days" isn't after Super Tuesday.

My guess is that Patty will join Cantwell and endorse Clinton. Gregoire will probably join them sometime next week.

I didn't realize Obama's every move was a movie.

What the hell? What happened to the rest of my comment? Fuck it.

What else would we expect from all the Vaginas we have representing this state? Hell half of them even look like HRC!

Noone cares who they endorse. Period.

The unfair weight of the votes being super delegates is a disgrace to the political system.

Hopefully they'll re-consider the fervor with which people in this state have grown to love Obama.

If they vote HRC it is simply a party favor for their female torch bearer and trailblazer.

Sad indeed.

I wonder how Mary Jo Kopechne feels about Kennedy endorsing Obama.

#7, I support Obama. I was just stating what I think will happen. Also, I voted for Cantwell, Murray, and Gregoire. Let's be respectful of women, please.

See, this is where this stuff comes from. Some boob calling himself "Do we really care?" who has never posted here before spouts some idiocy, and soon Big Sven will be along to attribute that viewpoint to "all the Obama supporters on Slog".

I'm not saying it doesn't happen the other way. I'm saying don't do it.

And, "Do we really care?", why don't you go out and play in the middle of the street for a while? Mommy needs a ciggie break.

I wonder how Vince Foster feels about another Clinton presidency.

@9 - so did I.

As someone who frequently shows up as agreeing with Richardson the most of all the candidates, I'm hoping he'll join me in supporting Obama, so that, should Gore refuse to serve as VP again, he can run on the Obama/Richardson ticket.

Now that would be cool.

But I'll settle for Obama/Dodd if need be.

Murray's gonna go for HRC. They're both establishment.

Fnarf @10, well stated as usual.

There's only one endorsement I'm holding out for. Mr. Gore, come down from the mountain. Your country needs you.

Great piece in today's NYT on the Kennedy endorsement by columnist David Brooks:

How could the septuagenarian Kennedy cast the younger Clintons into the past? He could do it because he evoked the New Frontier, which again seems fresh. He could do it because he himself has come to live a life of service.

I like Patty Murray a lot. I'd be disappointed if she went pro-war on this one.

@8: Probably nothing. She's been dead for almost 40 years.
