Wtf happened to the weather? It was awesome this morning.

Edwards is teh hotness.

Eli - your coverage is great - bill Heck for a lot of overtime at triple rates.

A nude picture of Edwards would get lots of gay votes, he is charm and steel. He needs a buzz cut for the hair, the bob reminds me of a woman ice skater from way back..... Dorothy Hammel?

Edwards is a bulldog lawyer and would be wonderful at helping to get Washington out of the hands of big money. Could it be we could have our country back?

It's true. He's very good looking and as a gay man, I might find that exceedingly distracting covering him on the campaign trail. I can't help but wonder what he smells like. Eli, do you know? Does he very lightly scent himself or does he - like a flight attendant - just smell clean and laundered.

He's 54 and up until this past week he reminded me of Tina Turner - almost a freak of nature age-wise, but of late he's looking very tired and who wouldn't?

@3 -- OMG. What does he SMELL like?

Hey Eli, didn't they teach you in J-school to include olfactory detail in your candidate profiles?

"...clean and laundered..."

Man, that's gonna make me chuckle all day today.

There are so many hard-working reporters doing amazing jobs! Screw Nursing, the world needs more reporters, brave young and women not afraid to wipe the asses of Medicare recipients!

Edwards is done. Get over it, everybody.

...he has no money left, essentially tied Clinton in IA for second when everyone said he was supposed to win, is now coattailing Obama's change rhetoric, and is going to come in a distant third in NH. Done.

Maybe Edwards thinks the marathon is arguably necessary given his disproportionate funds.

I do not know if his 'this is personal' rhetoric is helping or harming him.

It's refreshing to have an American candidate state that they care about the middle class, what few voters there are left in it anyway. (Did any middle-class or lower people vote Republican, and if so, why? Should I move to Canada now that I have failed to get in the top 1% of income-earners?)

Well, his marathon bus tour did him so much good in Iowa, no wonder he's doing it again.

Oh, wait...

On dark cold days like today I just want to ignore all this '08 nonsense and re-watch Tanner '88 and 2004's Tanner on Tanner. Spending 36 hours on an Edwards marathon would drive me nuts.

If the campaign trail is too difficult, just come on home.

Yes for most people Canada, EC, or Australia are better, what with socialized health, college and more secure retirement.

But you do have to pay higher taxes, and you can't own 100 guns, the way you can here.

Everything's a tradeoff.

John is 54 years old and Elizabeth has cancer. If they can do it (and they obviously can!), the reporters need to suck it up.

Why not? It is a small state with a small voter base around 700,000. Half of that number will probably vote in the Primary. Half of those who do will vote republican. This lease 175,000 votes for Democratic candidates (including independents). Obama and Richardson will probably get around 50% of that. Leaving around 87,500 votes to split between Clinton and Edwards. If he beats again Clinton she is done.
In 2004 Edwards got 26,412 votes. He'd need another 18,000 to take 2nd this time. That about 2.5% of New Hampshires registered voters. That's doable.
I know it is long and unlikely scenario. By why not go for it?

Interesting analysis, Zander. NH will be a big test for all of the big three. Hillary was anointed by the MSM as the heir apparent only a few months ago--a second or third place for her would be even more devastating than the second or third place that Edwards is expected to get. And will Obama's Iowa momentum last? We'll see.

Edwards' marathon bus tour may be even more grueling than Iowa. New Hampshire is a geographically small state with most voters (at least most Democratic voters) concentrated in the state's southern half. With cities and towns only a few miles apart, Edwards may be spending more time speaking and less time riding through vast swaths of empty farmland in between events where he could presumably get some rest. I wish him well; whether he wins or not he has at least succeeded in bringing the issue of the vanishing middle class to the table.

John Edwards is what this country needs. It's far from over and at the worst, I hope we're looking at an Edwards/Obama ticket.

I was about to say. I don't think Edwards is going to land the Prez nom, but he's doing well enough to possibly land the VP nomination if Obama gets the Prez nom.

Edwards is indeed hot, and if he were to run as VP with Obama, who is even hotter, White House press coverage would become nearly pornographic.

For real, I watched the recent debate, and I truly will be DELIGHTED to vote for any of the top three. Edwards is right about special interests. I really hope he'll be the VP.

Q:

1. What state in the USA has the mountain with the most annual deaths ?

2. Of the original 13 colonies, which was the most northern?

3. How many of the 13 colonies were in New England ?

A:
1. NH. Mt. Washington. About 6000 feet. The top part is well above the tree line, has howling winds, and sudden snow storms even in August that catch many hikers unawares.

2. Not Maine; Mass. or NH.
MA owned what is now Maine, while NH was traditionally listed as the most northern.

3. four. CT RI MA NH.
Vermont was a wild and independent place for a few years after 1777.

I expect Obama will pick someone other thand Edwards for VP for four reasons. The wide consensus was Edwards lost the vice presidential debate against Cheney last time around. The Kerry/Edwards ticket lost in Edwards' home state of North Carolina. Edwards is not about pulling this country together but instead about trying to get people to demonize each other. Obama won't want to be tied to the corporate-hedge-fund-folks that significantly fund Edwards campaign.

While I would be really happy to vote in the general for any one of the top three, Edwards is my favourite.
He's the only one I actually see telling people the system is rigged against them in favor of the rich, and he's right.

My parents live in NH and are voting for him tomorrow...I keep my fingers crossed.

Obama/Edwards '08, anyone?

Posted by K | January 7, 2008 9:27 AM

Um, Edwards couldn't carry NC before, so he failed at the traditional job of the VP. And Obama obviously needs someone with foreign policy experience.

Edwards going to be 3d in NH and so he'll be out. Sorry. Good man.
He could be a cabinet dude or head of Katrina/Gulf rebuilding.

Richardson is a better choice for VP due his experience also snagging NM and tipping the balance in NV, CO, maybe AZ.
Or Clinton? Hard to deny her if she ends up no. 2 in delegates.

@21 - Obama might WANT to pick Edwards for the credibility factor. Obama's hands are dirtied with lobbying money. Edwards has never accepted lobbying money. Ever. Say what you want about consulting re: hedge funds - Edwards is the director of the poverty center.
And I think we all know that voter habits from the last election don't count since it was rigged.

superyeadon, I like your thinking. Only problem is two senators. But Biden shores up the "experience" card.

No way is it Obama/Edwards. Edwards is done.
