Listening to Goldberg reminds me of living in the dorms, surrounded by neophyte conservatives who just discovered politics six months beforehand, and who blather on and on with their half-baked, uninformed, rickety concepts.

The man is the goddamned editor-at-large of The National Review Online, yet he's less sophisticated and less informed than a politically precocious high school student.

@9 well they were sorta into eugenics and Social Darwinism, but not nearly as racist as the conservatives of the time. If someone is trying to discredit an ideology based on past racism, Conservatism in all its forms is indicted.

I think Jonah comes off rather well and makes some good points (that there is an ugly history to some of the liberal ideology that we enjoy today) ... but he totally falls apart at the end when Jon lays out his obsession with labels. Who cares if Hillary uses label that used to mean "I'm a racist" but doesn't anymore?

That having been said, I do think it's a good idea to understand the history of progressive ideas. Jonah's book sounds like a worthy read.

I saw Jonah on H&C on Fox a week ago and it was ridiculous, this dude has no idea what he is talking about and did a poor job justifying his book on Fox News.

I thought Dan was great on Bill Mahr. He does have talent. It was an uncomfortable seating arrangement, but I thought he was great. A little opportunistic in the timing, but he was good on the show.

@18 seriously, his writing is next to unreadable, at least you have to think a little before you disagree with Krauthammer's arguements. But with Goldberg every single point is garbage.

Goldberg's an idiot because as much as he flirts with libertarianism he remains conservative. By his own definition he is thus a fascist. If he wished to call everyone but libertarians and anarchists fascists that would be fine with me, but he disingenuously calls only liberals fascists when he writes for a magazine that supports crap like gay marriage, federal funding of faith based initiatives, the "culture wars" and nation building. Stewart makes the one essential point any reader needs to know about Goldberg's book (even though it's evident he did not read it or consider the ideas) when he tells him that it seems all he's doing is complaining about conservatives getting called fascists.

This interview was still a joke though. How can anyone stand to watch Jon Stewart cutting off conservatives with some hollow, snarky remark, just to ensure all the liberals watching won't have their untenable views shaken? And then how can those people come onto these message boards and talk like Jonah Goldberg is the crazy, uninformed one?
