Goldberg id such a douche he has incredibly little knowledge of political theory, or the historical figures he quotes

Oh lord this is so much nothing. As long as we have the 2nd Amendment, we'll be able to defend against "Big Brother" "Liberal Fascists" or Granny Smith who ever.

Funny, though, that while you were just defending your appearance on Real Time, the linked video in this post (and the fact that writers would not get paid for it) is exactly what this strike is all about...

Wow, is Jonah Goldberg back already from his six tours in Iraq making the world safe for FreedomŽ. I refuse to waste even one more second of brainpower on that worthless asshole. Hooray for Jon Stewart!

You and me both, D. God I missed him. I see Samantha Bee is doing a lot of guest spots on the CBC. I guess WGA members can still work in Canada?

Damn, what a one-sided whipping. Jon Stewart rocks.

Maybe my history lessons were poor, because while it's true that I don't remember progressives in the days following the gilded age doing much about racism, I don't exactly think they could be called racist?

Maybe I just wasn't looking deep enough.

Whoa. It seems like they'll let any idiot write books nowadays....

....I should really try my hand at it.

My favorite part is the organic produce bit. That's where the absurdity really shows. By his own definition, Nazis used the word organic to describe something very different from pesticide-free produce.

The thing that this man doesn't seem to understand is the fluid nature of language. Words can, in fact, take on new meanings and shed old ones over very short periods of time.

Didn't they post the whole, unedited interview anywhere?

Listening to Goldberg reminds me of living in the dorms, surrounded by neophyte conservatives who just discovered politics six months beforehand, and who blather on and on with their half-baked, uninformed, rickety concepts.

The man is the goddamned editor-at-large of The National Review Online, yet he's less sophisticated and less informed than a politically precocious high school student.

@9 well they were sorta into eugenics and Social Darwinism, but not nearly as racist as the conservatives of the time. If someone is trying to discredit an ideology based on past racism, Conservatism in all its forms is indicted.

I think Jonah comes off rather well and makes some good points (that there is an ugly history to some of the liberal ideology that we enjoy today) ... but he totally falls apart at the end when Jon lays out his obsession with labels. Who cares if Hillary uses label that used to mean "I'm a racist" but doesn't anymore?

That having been said, I do think it's a good idea to understand the history of progressive ideas. Jonah's book sounds like a worthy read.

Like how the Nazis started the organic food movement?

I'd really like to see the interview in its entirety. I love how Jon get visibly more and more pissed as the interview goes on, dudes like Jonah hate to actually answer the question.

I saw Jonah on H&C on Fox a week ago and it was ridiculous, this dude has no idea what he is talking about and did a poor job justifying his book on Fox News.

I'm at a loss to understand why the Seattle Times runs columns by this ignorant douche.

This is how interviews with people from the National Review need to go. I'm so glad to see him not pulling punches out of some misplaced courtesy.

I thought Dan was great on Bill Mahr. He does have talent. It was an uncomfortable seating arrangement, but I thought he was great. A little opportunistic in the timing, but he was good on the show.

@18 seriously, his writing is next to unreadable, at least you have to think a little before you disagree with Krauthammer's arguements. But with Goldberg every single point is garbage.

In what way was the timing "...a little opportunistic...?

Hey Dan,

You must hate the striking writers.

The link you posted to internet content is the reason why the writers are striking. They want to get paid when their creations go online. How nice of you to help screw them again.

You just continue to show how fucking stupid or uncaring you are.

Congrats on not only being a douchebag scab but also an ignorant dick.

Ya gotta love it how liberals are fawning over Stewart for televising six minutes of a twenty minute interview, cutting out great points by Goldberg.

Liberal fascism indeed.

Goldberg owned that liberal retard. It shows the intellectual level of the idiots on this site that you would agree with a mental midget like Stewart. Typical lefty garbage, make stupid comments, smirk and then edit heavily, never mind the substance. Nazis were leftist, FACT.

Goldberg's an idiot because as much as he flirts with libertarianism he remains conservative. By his own definition he is thus a fascist. If he wished to call everyone but libertarians and anarchists fascists that would be fine with me, but he disingenuously calls only liberals fascists when he writes for a magazine that supports crap like gay marriage, federal funding of faith based initiatives, the "culture wars" and nation building. Stewart makes the one essential point any reader needs to know about Goldberg's book (even though it's evident he did not read it or consider the ideas) when he tells him that it seems all he's doing is complaining about conservatives getting called fascists.

This interview was still a joke though. How can anyone stand to watch Jon Stewart cutting off conservatives with some hollow, snarky remark, just to ensure all the liberals watching won't have their untenable views shaken? And then how can those people come onto these message boards and talk like Jonah Goldberg is the crazy, uninformed one?
