Yeah, it was interesting to say "So what? Who cares what those foreign people think?" for 7 years. Now that we have a good idea how well that works, lets try the other thing for a while.

As long as we don't try the other thing with the French...

The Europeans loved Kerry. Especially the French and Germans. It didn't help him win, but I like to image how things would be if he had won.

That said, the Italians liking Obama really won't solve anything. They aren't a big economy, they don't have troops in Iraq anymore, they don't have veto power in the G8...so I don't see a benefit.

Europeans for the most part just hate our foriegn policy, and even if Obama gets us out of Iraq, that stimaga stays.

It would be SO NICE to have a President that was at least tolerated by other countries.
I have friends from Europe who just sneer when they hear the name Bush.
If you live out of the country or travel a lot I think it is nice to have a President that people do not hate.

For the sake of argument if Obama was hated by the Europeans would you change you mind about him?

So what?
--We can learn from others if we drop the arrogance/ignorance complex.

Really. Be a little worldly.

--When other nations like us, they help us and care about us and it advances our mutual goals. And by far, most of our goals are mutual in this world.
Things like peace, the environment, international cooperation to disable terror networks without stupidly invading countries that are no threat and that didn't harbor the terrorists.

Little things like that.

You might want to look at a globe -- contrary to the maps shown in most USA classrooms, America is not the only country.

--WE might learn a hell of a lot from nations like Italy and others in the EC which have better social and governmental systems than we have. And have most of the things Democrats stand for.

I am sorry to burst your bubble unPC, but I am not an American. I lived the first part of my life in Australia before moving to Canada. I have traveled to Europe, Asia and the Mid East. Is that "worldly" enough for you? Being so worldly you must not have considered that an American web site can be read by anyone on the planet.

Mike, if you think the opinions of people in other countries don't matter in choosing the leader of any country, then you might as well be living in a cave. I don't see how you get a pass to act like that just because you're not from the US.

Maybe he can use his popularity to bail out Foxy Knoxy.

Mike may be like a lot of people I know. I think a lot of people from other countries think we are very self absorbed in the States and that our news is the most important and nothing else matters.

It still would be nice to have a President that was somewhat liked in the world. I have gotten hate letters dropped off at my door step just because I am an American.

italy hates bush, but elects berlusconi. italy loves obama, but has never elected a politician of color. italy shows solidarity with the plight of african americans and native americans, but treats its own immigrants like crap. northern italy refers to southern italians as dirty blacks.

You know, the headline on that Italian paper is correct, Sen Obama has more delegates than Sen Clinton, including more from NH.

Bush won election based on electoral votes, after winning delegates in the GOP.

Not popular votes (in either).

SeMe where are you from? Is that too personal? I don't remember if I already told you like a million times because I think it all the time but your English is excellent. It's better than mine and it's my first language. LOL
I think it was you who corrected a writer in Spanish way back. That was not me but it left me thinking Spanish is your first language because you made a reference to it.

Soy metiche y hablo espaņol mocho pero esto no me para de hablar hasta los codos : )

Mike:
oh, no problem. Love many Canadians. Sorry for assuming you were an American simply because you are talking about American politics on an American website and coment site on which most people are indeed, Americans, and also because you suggested what other countries think doesn't matter (which seems so the Stupid American to me!) and you are named Mike and not Migeul or Michele or soemthing like that.

You got a good "gotcha" on me there, amigo!

My bad.

Aplogies to all Canada, as well as all Mikes in England, Australia and NZ who may be reading this. Anyone else named Mike or Biff or Julie, I'll try to stop assuming you are Americans.

So apologies to the whole entire world.

Oh yeah -- Mike in Canada, now I can be more precise:
It's not you who are not worldly, it's only your position (that what other countries think doesn't matter), that is not worldly. As I explained above. And as to which you didn't bother to respond or take issue with.

Because as you must know -- it does matter.

Eh?

And my son and I won a prize for most Canadian when we went up to the Kootenays this past summer, unPC ... even some of us Americans are dual citizens.
