That's the sign from somewhere near the Safeway in Ballard. It flashes "Bardahl... Add It To Your Oil". If you walk down Leary at night, you can't miss it. I don't know the actual address of the building it sits on though.
In the warehouse-y section of Ballard, just over the Ballard Bridge. "ADD IT TO YOR GAS, ADD IT TO YOUR OLI."
My fave neon sign in the whole city since the Lincoln dealership sign was removed in S. Lake Union.
Ballard. It is at the old Bardahl automotive oil spot. Between 15th and 14th?
14th Ave NW & NW 52nd St.
BALLARD
Bardahl. Great building, too -- aluminum windows, green panels. The sign is probably Seattle's best landmark, since the Rainier R is gone.
It's for Bardahl, where a friend of mine works.
Vanishing Ballard.
@6 but you have to admit, the space needle is pretty iconic.
how could you not know where that is? have you literally never gone north of the canal?
I think she was kidding.
I dunno - I mean, she DID just title a post "Art is art, life is life" - which certainly suggests a few things to me...
That's in Tacoma, right?
@9, yes, but the Space Needle is to show to outsiders. The things that let you know you're home after going somewhere are more important. For me it's things like ADD IT TO YOUR OIL. I have clear memories of that sign from more than forty years ago.
Another one: the Elephant car wash sign.
What about the gigantic vulva--I mean blue flame--formerly on Mercer?
That Bardahl Oil neon has been photographed 74,832,641 times.
get your ass out of downtown for once... I left the state when I was four and know where that is.
