Fun with $$$

posted by on January 31 at 11:23 AM

The Huffington Post has a great campaign donations tracker that maps donations down to the street address. Spy on your neighbors! Guess how many candidates Howard Schultz has donated to! Who strikes Ruth True’s fancy? Play spot the Mormon! The search function kind of sucks, but it’s entertaining.

Whoa are these Republicans in 98102? Do they actually walk amongst us? On two legs? Is is possible that I've actually passed a John McCain donor on the way to QFC? Whoa.

The catch with this site (and other similar ones) is that the donor has to give $250 each time for him/her to appear. I've given hundreds of dollars to Obama, but always in increments of $50 or $100 (what I could afford at the time). But I'm not on this site.

People who don't want their donations known always seem to be the first to scream about the high-profile donations of others whom they don't like...
Wow, I think I just learned that Dale Chihuly lives a couple of blocks from me, I had no idea. I should say something nasty about him again.

@3&4: It's donations over $200, apparently. You're safe if you stay under that limit.

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels is wherever the getting is good.

@6 - this is why I've been giving less than $50 - puts me on fewer lists. Back when I gave $1000 to a couple of campaigns, I kept getting hit up all the time, and it's not worth the aggravations.

Wonder how much Suzie Burke is giving McCain this time ...

Only Edwards supporters show up in my neighborhood. Lots of Repugs in Fairwood though.

I see the SECB all "gave at the office."

This person lists her occupation as "PCC cashier", and gave Guiliani $2,000. Seems odd on several levels.

@12 - she shares a residence with Steve Beren, who ran against Jim McDermott last election. Probably his wife or daughter.

What's fun is to look up companies, and see the difference in donations between execs and worker bees. Costco's pretty consistent; Jim Sinegal gave the max to Obama and most of the others are blue, too. Wal-Mart, on the other hand - most of the bigwigs gave money to Huckabilly, whereas the rank-and-file are often (closet?) Democratic donors.
