Man, I love Kucinich rallies. Too bad there won't be any more.
He's no hippie, he's Bo Odyssey.
OH yeah - hipppies are such a giant problem in the list of problems out there
AND they really care what you think of them
BO is a fixture on C. Hill - rank individual from an older era - today, we are all supposed to look and act the same
SUBURBAN conformity seems to rule, too bad
Yes, I've seen that guy at festivals for 15 years. I have no idea how he makes his way in the world. Does he have a job? Where does he sleep? It's a total mystery to me how he survives by just swinging colorful pieces of fabric around all day, year in and year out.
Go Bo!
I understand where he is coming from. Once you realize how meaningless meaning itself is, it's easy to give oneself over to a trivial immersion in the ebb and flow of appearance. But I say this to smelly jingle-bell dress man: realize that motive is not something you find but something you create. Don't let appearances absorb you: tear them apart. Undo them. Wave an axe, not a bolt of chintz!
isn't that the guy who wears a skirt w/ no underwear and flashes people at the pride parade?
Oh get over the anti-hippie crap. Did you know that some people consider The Stranger to be a "hippie newspaper?" There are folks who think "hipsters" are descended from hippies.
I've seen this guy around Capitol Hill for years and he seems perfectly harmless. Hippies don't freak me out. Now clowns, on the other hand...
I am still just a bit traumatized after seeing this guy in the Fremont Solstice Parade but he was completely Neked!
I say more power to him for being who he wants to be. Others are a bit more skeptical accusing him of just trying to get attention.
After we get a handle on the Hippie menace, let's get to work on that Galoot problem.
Oh yeah, that guy. So that's his name, then.
What is the deal with that guy, anyway? Acid casualty or something?
i always figured he was an acid burnout, but it's hard to be mad at the guy because every time i see him he smiles at me and it's such a genuine smile you can't help but smile back.
not my thing, but it seems to make him happy so more power to him!
The only hippies I mind are the pretentious self-righteous ones who think that anybody who doesn't all hippish is sad and repressed. I honestly enjoy living in a house, watching tv, and not doing art.
Forced conformity to an 'alternative' way of living only makes that mode of living hardly alternative.
According to his business card, which he once autographed for me, his name is The Boe Oddisey, and his slogan is "Scarf Dancing Anytime Anywhere." He also specializes in "Any Kind Abstract Acrylic Painting" and wants his fans to "Seize the Day. . .Celebrate!" There's even a PO Box address. He has dentures that don't fit his head, and I like how he pushes them back in place with the bottom of his mouth in the middle of a conversation. I also like his friend, the old long haired spandex guy. They keep each other company on winter afternoons.
Oh that's just Bo, aka the scarf-dancing man. He's been around since I was a wee tot, and attends nearly every outdoor music event in the city. I love him!
This guy walks the neighborhood, with one of those 3-foot gripper grabber things, picking up garbage. He's out there a lot, apparently without any need for praise, picking up your garbage. How many of you are so worried about your expensive hipster shoes you wouldn't even step on garbage, much less pick it up? Old gay hippy man rules!
.. on the corner of pine 15th and pine there is a sign that names bo odyssey as the official neighborhood street cleaner and keeper of the block..
..somebody ought to get a picture of him and the rainbow lady together.hippies or not they're among the last living vestiges of old seattle public pesronalities. and they're both two of the sweetest people imaginable
Young-sters don't have one-third the guts Bo does. They think they are hip because they are 25. Watch what happens when reality hits them up side the head with the 2x4 of truth. Hip means wearing edgy colorful dresses and walking in the 4th dimension. Try that color 20something "hipster".
Yes. Hippies and clowns have a lot in common.
LOL @ 11!
I'm an ol' hippie myself. The Stranger is a perfect fit for ol' hippies!
Dan Savage, Mr. Stranger,d ranks so called "hippies" any chance he gets. I am sure his take on Bo is not the same as most of the posters here .... Bo carried a 7 foot peace sign at every rally or march in the city for a decade ... before the scarfs. He has long liked a sorta of trans garb, dresses, beads, and so forth.
His long time partner died about two years ago. There was an obit in SGN. Forget his name, but they sued Puyallup fair and WON. The Fair had ejected them in the late 90ies becausue they were wearing leather chaps and jock which showed some butt.
They not only won, but collected some money.
Go, Bo and long life. And just always, always do your thing.
Peace to all, in short supply right now.
I always thought he was one of the Radical Faeries. Never knew he was the Boe Oddessey of the 15th/Pine cleanup sign though.
He's been as much a staple of Cap Hill as any in the 17 years I've lived here. it's sad but not surprising that the current denizens see him as something that needs to be removed, rather than appreciating who and what he is to the community.
Many years ago my mom was visiting, and while walking through Reservoir Park (pre-Cal Anderson Park) we passed Boe & his partner. One of them was on a leash. After we passed my mom turned to me and said "I probably don't want to know about that, do I?" I just laughed and said "No, mom, you probably don't" and we kept walking.
this guy was at bumbershoot this year. i danced with him and he gave one of the scarves. cool guy.
My most recent Bo sighting was at the opening of the SLUT in December. I was glad to see he was covered top and bottom. 'Cause while I appreciate his joie de vivre, I don't want to see his penis.
he use to get led around with a dog leash by some leather dude.
he seems harmless. why yall hating on the old hippie? yall gonna be some ugly old motherfuckers too one day.
I LOVE this guy! He keeps the Hill unique, rather than a sea of carbon-copy, jaded hipsters who wouldn't dance if you paid them. Plus, he's happy and smiles at me whenever I see him, wears a skirt in an era where you get bashed for even looking gay, and seems to enjoy life. Too bad the Stranger is so limited in what they deem "cool."
yep, definitely a highlight of Cap Hill living. My first siting was out the window of my apt. Not long after moving in, was on the phone and looked out the window...damn tootin' there he was.
Pops up from time to time, last siting was the jazz in Cal Anderson thing. Just as entertaining the second time as the first.
Glad to know his name! Long live Boe Oddysey.
If Bo and Dee Dee Rainbow had a kid they could name it Skittles.
But the idea of Bo and Dee Dee having sex makes me want to barf... colorfully!
He's everywhere, seriously no Seattle even is complete without him making an appearance (and he usually does). We call him Rasputin.
No, no... he used to lead a leather dude around on a leash. And then his partner committed suicide, and it kinda broke my heart. I'm pro Bo.
Be careful in the summer when he feels that only a loin cloth is necessary. I've seen that dudes balls way too many times.
Hardcore attention seeker, but harmless. I could easily go without seeing his penis three times a year.
@28, I find it funny that people who complain about people mocking Bo, mock those who live differently then him. Maybe the hipsters you deride are just as happy living their lives as Bo is living his.
Yes his partner died. Very tragic situation. It is amazing he can always maintain a smile.
if any seattle fixture is screaming to be the subject of a documentary it's this guy. he needs a wikipedia page or something.
Now I recall this guy from the parades. He is a welcome part of the community as far as I am concerned. It is called diversity. He belongs equally with guys who have short fussy hair cuts and A&F clothes. Conformity is at odds with diversity. Thank goodness for spirits such as Bo.
He came up on stage once at a gig I was playing. Needless to say, we were completely upstaged.
Not just an acid burnout, but a NARAL volunteer. I stuffed envelopes with him in high school.
He's a fascinating Seattle character, has anyone ever interviewed him? If not, someone on the Stranger get on it!
"if any seattle fixture is screaming to be the subject of a documentary it's this guy"
What about that kid who walks around dressed like Link from Legend of Zelda? Him and that old man with the police scanner he is always with crack me up. They sit there on the bus talking the most insane conspiracy theories I've yet to hear.
However, to Bo I say... you are badass!
OMG - I friggin' hate this guy and his creepy as fuck 'Master'.
When I worked at Kinko's in the early '90s they brought a lawsuit against Kinko's based on around completely false interaction they had with me at the cash register. They made the whole thing up. They said that I had discriminated against them because they are gay - and I'm fucking G-A-Y.
