i know most of the stranger's staff or writers could care less about the middle part of the country, but they do call themselves seattle's only newspaper, so i'd expect them to at least do a little fact checking.

this does not take place in South Dakota, it takes place in IA. Sioux City sits over 3 states, but the address means this was an Iowa crime.

I'm sure you would have gotten it right if it were a place that mattered to you...

@1, I live a lot closer to Iowa than Dan does, and I'm not sure that

i get the point with these articles - i mean it's like being clubbed over the head. why not run positive stories of gay parents and their kids instead of this dead baby stuff. just my personal opinion.

AAAAAA! Your software ate my post. Anyway, I'm not sure I could find Sioux City on a map, much less know what state it's in.

I was psychic - I predicted this post two days ago.

I get the point with #5. I only see it every goddamn time Dan posts one of these. It's like being clubbed over the head, by an idiot.

Go away. Bzzz.

Spooky.

Maybe there is something to all that psychic powers stuff. Unless anybody can think of a non-supernatural explanation for how he could have predicted what Dan was about to say.

Any way you could post these every items every 15 minutes or so? And maybe hook it up so we could get SMS updates when we're not at the computer? I *think* I see the point you're trying to make, but would love another 4,000 chances to really let it sink in. Thanks!

I really think these posts are more effective than people here might think. It is just the wrong audience. Too bad you cannot collect all these and direct them at mainstream middle America who don't seem to have a clue how terrible straight parents really are.

Why will no one credit him for saving Sioux City from its severe consequences?

I'm noticing -- and I could be wrong, maybe Dan has an exact figure -- that in the majority of these stories the common link is that the parents are young. How many of these stories involve idiot kids who shouldn't be breeding in the first place?

Idiot kids who shouldn't be breeding in the first place? No, you've got to go to TMZ for that.

Burgin @11 - Anyway you could try to never post here again? I *think* I see you trying to be witty, but would love to be spared the further 4000 chances of watching you fail spectacularly in this attempt. Thanks!

I think every child should either have an Ozzie-and-Harriet 50's upbringing, OR, a Staffordshire Pit bull. Noun/Verb/9-11. Can't be too secure these days.

For the record, Sioux Falls = South Dakota, Sioux City = Iowa. But Sioux City isn't 3 states over from South Dakota either. It's about 50 miles south of Sioux Falls just on the other side of the Missouri River. At least that's not as confusing as Kansas City, most of which is in the state of Missouri.

Let me just add to laterite's totally accurate geographical clarification by saying:

Sioux Falls- charming mid-size (by midwestern standards) metro in SE South Dakota with all the ammenities of big cities, but low housing prices, low crime rates, and short commutes.

Sioux City- a.k.a. "Sewer City". Hell on earth. Small jerkwater in NW Iowa with right wing loons who are so conservative they refuse to replace the open air waste treatment plant that sits *right* between the airport and downtown and creates fumes so vile I actually threw up in my rental car. So bad, the slaughterhouses left years ago. Also, the strip clubs are filled with both spooky patrons and spooky, apparently-hep-positive "entertainers."

Hopefully this clears up any confusion.

Here's a general rule used by Iowans:

Iowa inland towns- Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, Dubuque- prosperous and charming.

Iowa river towns- Sewer City, Council Bluffs, Quad Cities, and above all home-of-the-high-school-racists Dubuque- squalid and not charming.

I fucked it up again, 'cause I'm sick.

The last one of the inland towns is supposed to be "Ottuma", which is prosperous and charming, not "Dubuque", which is squalid, not charming, and as I mentioned, full of racial strife.

You fucked it up one more time, too - "Ottumwa".

Which I strongly maintain that 99.9% of the people who have ever heard of it to begin with (certainly including me) only know from Radar O'Reilly being from there.

I agree, if I were to pick a midwestern city to live in, Sioux Falls would be near the top of the list.

Google wants to expand its presence into Council Bluffs! Joke's on them...

i live 30 mins from ottumwa, iowa--& it is not charming. the downtown is almost nothing but pawn shops, tattoo parlors, instant check places, x-rated theater (now closed), bars, & bail bonds places. i shit thee not. (ottumwa is also on a river--but it's not the mississippi or missouri river. it's the hometown of tom arnold)

I was about to say - "How could that be RADAR's hometown???". Them you said Tom Arnold, though, and it all clicked into place.
