UPDATE : Ugh. My sincere apologies for this mess. In an attempt to rid the Slog of a series of shitty racist comments, we cast a slightly wider net than necessary. Rest assured that you are no longer all labeled racists. The comments have been restored from our most recent backup, but sadly most comments from this morning were not included in that backup.

bellevue - basically every comment thread following any obama-related posts gets polluted with some racist terminology that i personally have never heard before. it's kind of like "egg nog" only instead of egg it's another word [actually a word fragment] that sounds kinda "racy," and they post it over and over and over again.
but anyway the non-racist slog commenters seem to do a pretty good job of not engaging the racist slog commenter[s], despite his/her/their repeated attempts to goad people into a brawl [is this what teh internets call "trolling?"]. so that is worth commending.
the obvious solution is to eliminate commenting on Slog

You need to go to actual verified logins, where people have a login per email (so i could have three) and each login can either post with a verified linkable "name" (e.g. Will_in_Seattle and no Fred_in_Seattle you will never get recommends on WaPo with those posts so stop whining) and the ability to post with pseudonyms (e.g. Squirrel Army or Fuzzy Pink Slipper Brigade) - but all linked back to an "account").
And the ability to report racist/spam/offtopic for review - thus letting you realize that all neocons are way too much bother to ever allow them to post .... after you see what shiites they are ...
And then have a human decide the ban/unban/readonlyandnotpostcauseuraouche decisions ...

Yeah, you know what? You got what you deserved. Using a filter to delete comments based on what amounts to a lifestyle taboo against a certain word is a lame dodge. If a prominent right-wing blog wiped out a ream of comments while trying to delete comments comparing Bush to Hitler or something, it'd be poetic justice. No less so here.
Racists are self-evidently wrong. Trying to play Whack-a-Mole with them just makes you look like a typically overreacting liberal.

And you know what? I think I'm the one who taught our 15-watt bulb to use that odious phrase; I was using it ironically to illustrate the typical attitudes of a Daily Mail reader, and our loser recognized the portrait as itself. I apologize profusely.

My really good comment about Barack's speech saying how great it was and that he will be the 44th President is FUCKING GONE!!!! The real racists are the staff of the Stranger. I'm all for deleting racist comments; while you're at it, could you please delete the misogynistic ones, as well? The Slog is an extremely unpleasant place for women.

The person making the racist comments caused some important people (like me) to dread reading comments. I am so glad that they are deleted and I totally appreciate how Slog respects ALL commenters and shows that respect by deleting bull shit.
