I'm about convinced the hipster attitude is entirely reactionary. When an old bowling alley in Ballard closes, that's a triupmh of banality. When an old Taco Bell in Capitol Hill closes, that's... What? Also a triumph of banality?

I don't know: maybe I'm just mean and I hate everyone. Well, I am mean and I do hate everyone. But aside from that, am I right? Every time something goes down or goes up, the reaction from Cap Hill is negative. Nothing is allowed to change, and nothing new can be good. Everything old (in dog years of course) is good.

Finally is right. The first indication that real things were going to happen was two weeks ago when the city started to put in new telephone polls new to the new QFC.

Broadway will be a different place once these two new buildings come online. Good times!

I dont trust Taco Bell. There is something I find very odd about how every store does their 7-layer different. In addition, I get the same feeling I do when I land inside a Dairy Queen -- that feeling you get when you are 100% sure the punk kids running it have customized your order with unauthorized natural flavoring agents.

@23 i know! good stuff.

well, i was say for cha cha and kincora's because those were places i went, and they provided a certain atmosphere. taco bell, not so much. but still, it's been there for a long time, and quite a few people frequent it, so i can see why some might miss it.

i'd rather none of the fast food chains go in. but like exercising, just because i think it's good doesn't mean it's going to happen.

I couldn't agree with this comment more. I am amazed when people nostalgically lament the demise of such crappy establishments as Taco Bell. It was a freaking blight, and unsanitary to boot. Folks, wake up! Things need to change on Broadway! It's this irrational embracement of places like Taco Bell that has caused the neighborhood to decline so dramatically in recent years. Have some pride in your neighborhood, for christ's sake! And yes, there will be less trash in the area (I can't tell you how many Burrito wrappers I have picked up on my street) with the closing of TB and the equally nasty Jack in the Box. Here's to Progress!

As to what's going in place of the TB, this site will be part of the very large new apartment complex that will also include the site of the old QFC. Apparently there is going to be 13 retail spaces in this new building. And, please dear god, let's hope none of these spaces is filled by a fast-food joint

I'm horrified that no one has mentioned the Piroshky place on Broadway that will have to move soon to make way for the light rail project.

It is IMPERATIVE that they find a new home. Capitol Hill without those delicious piroshkys, and the Piroshky lady urgently trying to upsell you, ("You like nice cup soup wit that? It is zo delicious!)would be a Capitol Hill not worth living in.

I'll miss the Taco Bell... at least you knew what you were getting, even if it was a bit crappy.

As for the other taco places on the hill... Tacos Gringos I found to be gross as well as Tacos Guaymas.

AS for those of you putting Dick's on a different plane from Taco Bell... are you fucking kidding me? I'd wager you get much healthier meals at Taco Bell. I love Dick's at 1:55AM just like the next guy, but lets be serious about what it is you're putting in your piehole.

@39, you're wrong. A taco is not a burrito (junk food Chipotle's isn't a burrito either). Tacos are meant to be tiny bites. You're supposed to eat several of them. That way you have different kinds -- al pastor, a little carnitas, maybe a tongue or beef cheeks. Have a shrimp one! Does anyone in Seattle make a shrimp taco worth eating.

I'll be in Mexico in two days, and I won't miss anything about this town, least of all Taco Bell.

I always wondered why the FUCK Mix would have taken the freaks to Taco Bell first, if Dicks is _the_ place the Swass hang out. Was it because he was treatin' and had 27 people to feed (5 fellas and 22 freaks)? I mean, why not just make Larry the White Guy pay? He paid for damn near everything else!

Old school Seattle memory: massive, multi-hundred person scenes at Dicks in the mid-80s. I mean, spilling into the streets, cop cars, fights, gang stand-offs, boom-mobiles, the whole shit.

@47: I was thinking that same memory. Troop jackets everywhere, cops blocking off the street, folks wilding the fuck out. Dick's was exciting.

When I lived at the Biltmore, Nasty Nes lived in the building next door. He gave me my first N.W.A. record -- the 12" of "Dope Man." Seems like a million years ago.

That video makes me long for Ernie Steele's, not Taco Bell. I've lived my whole life without ever eating at Taco Bell but, man, I sure like a stiff drink.
