I wonder if Vili and Mary Kay are sad that they didn't start up during the age of camera phones and txt msgs.

When I was in high school back in the 80's I knew of at least 4 male teachers who were notorious about hitting on female students (and having affairs w/ them). And that was just at my high school. It's hard to believe that no other teachers or administrators knew something but nobody did a damn thing about it as far as I could tell.

Also, I bet you can ask some of your female friends if they ever got hit on in high school by teachers, friend’s fathers, etc. You would probably be surprised how many men are fucking pervy.

As a high school girl it was pretty common among the girls I knew to have lecherous old dudes hitting on you. Mostly we just laughed about it and thought they were disgusting old creeps.

But in case you are wondering...even if he/she seems really mature, it's really not cool to hit on your students or your daughters/sons friends.

Whatever. When I was in high school my friends' mothers -- most of them single working parents -- used to hit on me all the time. I almost slept with one during a low self-esteem moment, but the inherent skeeziness of the situation was more than I could rationalize.

I generally thought of them as sad lonely people who'd been fucked over by life and were desperate for some comfort and validation, even if it meant trying to exploit a 15 year old boy. Maybe I should have taken a page out of the teenage girl handbook, and treated them with more disgust and contempt.

i'd hit that - but she'd think i was a pervy old man.

Something else I didn't notice at first -- this woman was a teacher at "Moon Area High School."

#6 - Don't get me wrong... Just b/c we 'just mostly laughed' at them and thought of them as disguisting in 95% of the cases, the other 5% of the cases were pretty screwed up. Those cases were older men (teachers, freinds fathers) would succeed in taking advantage of a young girl who was having a 'low self esteem moment'. It sucked for them and it was wrong of the older person to go there.

I guess my point is that these cases that have a woman as the predator get a lot of attention whereas male on female statutory rape is not given clearly as much attention because it is almost normalized....and that sucks.

@14... "male on female statutory rape is not given clearly as much attention"

Fail.

Four words:
To Catch A Predator.

@15,

To Catch a Predator isn't the same thing as the media blitz that made Mary Kay Letourneau a household name.

Although, the extra attention paid to female on male statutory rape is far more due to a salacious interest in it. An older man fucking a young girl is disgusting. An older woman fucking a young boy for some reason isn't. Then, there's the assumption that a boy wants it/is asking for it.

I agree that To Catch a Predator has nothing on Mary Kay, but I think to say, as Don't Do It said, that male on female statutory rape doesn't get as much attention as female on male is completely untrue. It gets media attention nearly every day. How often do we hear about older men trying/succeeding to get it on with younger girls?

Don't Do It said it's "normalized". It's not normalized, this shit just happens so much, and is in the news so much, that you start ignoring it. And then every 5 years some horny lady makes some bad life decisions and ends up "in love" with a 14 year old boy, and it SEEMS like it is getting more attention than it deserves...but really, maybe we just notice it more.

@17, we notice it more because it is out of the norm, of course. therefore captures the imagination more.

Where did all these young attractive female teachers come from. Unfortunately, when I was in high school back in the 70's, the female teachers mostly looked like Madeline Albright.:(

Judah @10: Moon Township is near the Pittsburgh airport. But if living under a flight path doesn't appeal to you there is a town called Mars not too far away.

I have always defended Mary Kay. She loved her boy, whatever it meant. In the end they came out together. Who among you can say the same? Mary Kay rules!!!!!

@14... "male on female statutory rape is not given clearly as much attention"

uh, except in sentencing and the way the guilty are treated afterwards. look how mary kay is treated now versus how any male teacher is treated. sex offender for life? can't live without registering... can't get a decent job... come on. people here even say they admire mary kay and that it was love. maybe so, but do you see that same forgiveness directed towards the many men who might fall into that category?

@5: At what point does this stop being 'deviant behavior' and just become 'common male behavior' ?

I don't care what the respective genders are, taking advantage of a power imbalance to get sex is not right. Persons holding authority over others - cops, teachers, preachers, bosses - shouldn't be having sex with the persons over whom they have such authority until such time as that relationship equalizes or ends. This goes double for any adult in a position of authority over minors.

That being said, as a 12-year-old girl, I had the major hots for one of my English teachers. Had I not been such an ugly little skank, and had he ever shown any pervy interest, I'd have been flat on my back in a New York minute. That still doesn't make it right, and it wouldn't have made it a healthy relationship. The same goes for a 12-year-old boy with the hots for his female English teacher.
