Not only do biofuels promise to exacerbate climate change in the name of combatting climate change, they also promise to have a hand in anther massive, irrevocable crime upon the planet, the loss of biodiversity. There's a book I recommend that details this less publicized environmental crisis.

Sure, there's a small chance that in the next 20 years we'll see scalable biofuels from algae or switchgrass or something, but that's not where the money is to be made now. It doesn't take a genius to realize that many of the people who are most actively preaching hope for good biofuels are doing so because they're earning their living off bad biofuels.

To view corn ethanol or biodiesel from palm oil as a bridge to renewable biofuel from algae is a bit like waging perpetual war in the name of peace.

Heck, if I had $200K burning a hole in my pocket, I'd have signed up for a flight a long time ago.

So does sugar. My great fear is that Americans won't think twice about bulldozing the last of the ecosystem to fuel our obsession with cars. I hope I'm wrong.
