The P-I article says the suspect of interest is 29. Antjuan Oden is in his late-30s now.

Don't think so, Mike. The man being held is 29; the artist in that piece was 31 in 2002, so 36 or 37 now.

Remember when the story first broke, and everyone was focusing on the Sierra Club volunteer who had shown an interest in the victim? Go back and read the comments in Slog: People were ready to string that guy up.

Let's at least wait until this guy is charged with an actual crime, if it happens.

@ 12 Either guilty until proven innocent or not guilty by reason of insanity so move along people nothing to see since justice will not be served here either way.
For years riding the bus I realized that some of the people I was riding with could kill me right there and not go to jail since they were clearly beyond insane. Think about that next time your on the bus.

When was the last time someone got killed by an insane bus rider, since the poor late-night bus driver who was attacked and hence pummelled off the Aurora Bridge into Fremont in 2000 or so?

When was the last time someone got killed in a car accident?

Yes, that's what he's doing. Dan, this seems fine for the scrappy underdog Stranger of the early 90's. But The Stranger is not a scrappy underdog anymore, it's an establishment, and revealing this guy's name would be an abuse of power. (Thankfully you didn't reveal the name of the previous suspect du jour - the Sierra volunteer who creeped everyone out but apparently had nothing to do with this).

i remember being on a bus and a guy plotting the murder of someone that ratted on him and sent him to jail.

I sat behind a clearly schizophrenic man on a city bus several years ago, who was quite obviously engaged in a very intense argument with the voices in his head. Just as the bus was pulling away from a stop, he abruptly turned around and glared at me as if I had stabbed him in the back. The look of fear and hatred in his eyes scared me to death. I think he was under the impression I had said something I hadn't - something threatening - who knows, man. I was traveling alone and hadn't said a word. But after a second or two of staring at me murderously, he leapt up and ran for the front door. The bus driver hit the brakes jerking the bus to a stop and opened the door for him. He fled down the sidewalk at a full run.
I thought he was going to kill me. Right on the city bus in front of everybody.

@ 17 You have not rode route 3 or 4 up to Harborview. There is a certain sense of powerlessness when dealing with the violently mentally ill that often ride the bus. Did they stab me, no. Do they show off their craziness with intimidation in a blatant display of "the law can't touch me because I am mentally ill," yes. I don't know why I bring it up since there is nothing that can every be done about it.

Find the people who were booked on January 5th. Check what they were booked for. When you find a match, you've got your guy.

The article in the Times said that he was arrested on the 4th and he was picked up by the DOC, but that doesn't necessarily mean it was the Seattle PD. Even if it was the Seattle PD that picked him up, he probably didn't get booked into the jail downtown, they probably shipped him to Monroe and booked him there due to the probation violation. I looked at King County Jail Register for that day, no one was booked for probation violation.
