He's laid back, yet on target every time he sets board to snow. While you'll see Shaun White clones (young kids with bandanas tucked up under their goggles) all over the slopes, you won't see many like Johnny. The last few years he's been the "hippie" on the slopes with tie-dye multicolored hair tucked under a rainbow-colored pompom hat. This year I've seen him sporting a feather in his cap. No, really. He's been wearing a green cap with a white feather sticking... I don't see much for style (stiff arms and some A-frame legs on the rails, whirly spastic spins), and umm, anyone around at the beginning of the sport did all that binding-less shit on anything they could stand and slide on before they got their first real board.

It's a good idea to write about alt-sports. Skateboarding, snowboarding, these are what the "alternative" crowd is into today. Why doesn't The Stranger host a snowboarding event up at Crystal? That would be awesome. A bunch of guys from my software project group took snowboarding lessons last year and now we are carving all winter. It's a cool sport and something that this Manhattan Jew never thought he'd be doing!
