Joel Connelly and Joanie Balter are stroking themselves on KUOW now. Says Blatherwatch

The hour will feature Mr. & Ms. Excitement: The P-I’s Joel Connelly and The Seattle Times’ Joanie Balter, whose generation’s futzing and forthholding has been a near lock on KUOW political anals since the 2nd Coming of Ronald Reagan.

(The vibrant, local netroots, voices under 50, conservatives, and those outside establishment Seattle media are nearly invisible on political KUOW. We’d love to hear the voices of such as David Goldstein, Eric Earling, Sandeep Kaushik, Ron Reagan, Josh Feit, Erica Barnett, Andrew Villeneuve, Aimee Curl, Dan Kirkdorffer, Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, Nina Shapiro, Dean Nielsen, Joan “McJoan” McCarter, Will Kelley-Kamp, Geov Parrish, and Dan Savage. And, we suspect, so would the demo public radio is always wringing their hands over not attracting!)

How 'bout adding that cheap, vindictive prick SS from Sound Politics to that list? I'd listen to Goldy and Shark go at it if I knew they were going to be on together. Or does he have a regular gig on another station?

Joel Connelly and Knute Berger should have a wheeze-off.

"Joel Connelly and Joanie Balter are stroking themselves on KUOW now."

i guess that's because they don't have the opportunity to stroke themselves in public 24 hours a day like you do, dan.

So that was Joni Balter I heard earlier? I was wondering who was so snarky, cynical and clearly unhappy with everything in life on KUOW.

I was bitching about these knobs elsewhere until I realized they had their own hate thread.

Joni Balter knows how lame it would sound if she went on with peevish judgementalism like "I'm sick of Hillary. I have Hillary fatigue" so instead she pretends "People have Hillary fatigue. People are sick of Hillary."

This is my third post today saying how much I hate these two old fuds.

Joni Balter: Worst. Columnist. Ever. Has she ever written or said anything remotely original. Ugh.

We've become a society of specialists and navel gazers -- is it any wonder that those who have been around forever get to take center stage and expound on their necessarily constricted worldview? KUOW is torn between wanting to showcase the "tried and true experts" and needing to reach out to a new demographic. I think they consistently make the wrong choice -- and yet I still listen because I don't have many other attractive options.

Originality is one thing; Balter can barely string a handful of sentences together coherently. Connelly is much better, even if his sensibilities are those of an older generation.

And I'm sorry, but I cannot listen to that woman's voice on the radio. I would rather listen to gulls screeching for an hour.

@3: Knute Berger is cool - you're just jealous of his fro. But if there is a wheeze-off, don't forget to enter Grampa Savage.
Nina Shapiro is the best reporter in Seattle. Definitely give that girl some airtime.

Joni Balter is usually right on these things. She has that gift of second sight, IMHO. Not always, but very often.

But Will, Joni Balter's columns never make a lick of sense. I can never determine her the nature of her argument or what idea she's trying to put forward. She's knowledgeable about local politics and seems intelligent enough, but her writing is just dreadful.
