Especially when the writers are practically demanding it, implying that if the hosts didn't take care of the writers, it would be an indication of just how greedy and uncaring they are.
They're under no obligation to help them, and in the end, if the writers aren't making the sacrifice, the people in charge aren't going to take their demands seriously. So, they effectively ruin their chances of getting the pay increase that they wholly deserve, because they're not committed enough to take a risk for it. And all at the expense of their generous host.
