Whoa. I just used "egads" in an e-mail for the first time in my life, only to see you use it here. Freeeaky.
Both officers should be tasered and all will be forgiven.
Mr. Williams should be receiving a check with at least 5 digits in front of the decimal point.
Where was Mr Williams' gun hidden? Under the towel?
Or was he supposed to put his hands above his head, let the towel drop, and get charged with indecent exposure? Get put on the sex offender list with the bicycle-wanker?
From the department of damned-if-you-do, with a CC to damned-if-you-don't.
when you a deaf and someone is yelling at you, you really have no clue what they want you to do. show your hands. get on the ground. who knows. he deserved a settlement. but how much should one get for being tasered? perhaps somewhere in the low five figures is right.
Nobody cares, 1.
What is it with asswipe cops tasering people for no reason lately?
Tasers can kill, you idiots. The probability is pretty low, but goosing someone with a jolt of electricity at those voltages can cause a heart attack if someone's ticker isn't in perfect order. Tasers are meant to be non-lethal, but they aren't 100% foolproof. It isn't merely a bit of pain and some inconvenience. There is at least some possibility that they could have killed him by accident.
I used to think tasers were a good idea. Better than shooting someone with a 9mm, and later finding out it wasn't necessary. But this recent trend of cops tasering people for no reason is really bothering me. It isn't as lethal as a 9mm (usually), but a taser isn't a fucking toy.
if the police want the power to dictate the actions of an individual, then they must exercise the utmost judgment when using harmful force.
I must agree with SDA....my first thought upon hearing about the increased use of tasers was, "well, better than guns." However, I also worry that because a taser is less likely to kill someone, that the cops will use it more often than they would ever consider using a gun. With all these tasering incidents lately, I just might be right.
@6 - Since it's a "non-lethal" weapon, it's only made the cops more trigger happy. It's like someone who normally bikes safely becoming a daredevil just because they bought a helmet.
Wichita should make it illegal to be deaf. Problem solved!
So this guy was basically standing in a tub full of water and was jolted with 300Kv of electricity. I'm thinking this guy is lucky not be dead and the settlement should contain way more than 5 digits in front of the decimal point.
This taser thing is getting out of hand, maybe if a politician's child dies from being tasered then they'd have better regulations
Notice how often these asshole cops whip themselves into a frenzy everytime they have to deal with an obvious no-threat situation?
Are they really that fear driven?
Where the hell is the fucking courage we are supposedly paying for?
Not to mention the ability to correctly analyze a situation.
Make them work a recycling sorter job for a month before you can their asses for fucking that up too.
Hmm... who wants to guess the probability that these cops will be fired for their gross error?
I have a novel idea: Make it so that the punishment for wrongfully Tasering someone is that the cop is publically Tasered.
Lemme guess: Donnell is black and the pigs, er, cops were white.
Wow, that never happens!
