You HOPE there were fatalities?

I think that was a case of you accidentally telling the truth and demonstrating how big a POS you REALLY are. Don't allow comments on 3 dumbass snowboarders who died being shit for brains, but lets HOPE some Christians die because they hate homos.

You are one fucked up queer Mr. Savage.

News Update: For the Springs shooting, "three to five" wounded, no fatalities, shooter (no, not Haggard) in custody. For the Arvada shooting, 2 dead, 2 wounded, shooter unknown and still at large. Details of both shootings still sketchy.

Oh, ecce, I love you. But the sentence makes no sense without the missing "no" before fatalities--the second half of the sentence exonerates me.

Here’s hoping there were no fatalities and the gunman, if he’s “down,” only succeeded in offing himself.

I don't wish 'em dead. If I did, I'd say so -- I have tourettes like that.

Mock away, Sloggers! Crack wise at will. See if you can find some angle open to a little snark (all in good fun). No harm in some gallows humor here. You could even say the victims were asking for it if you like.

It's not like we're talking about snowboarders, for whom we get all choked up and a little sensitive. What's one more dead or wounded Christian anyway?

Who gives a crap about snowboarders?

I had a little chuckle at the fact they were probably jamming to Korn on their designer IPods while suffocating in their last minutes under tons of snow, crying and scared.

The people who got shot were just leaving church. Hardly a dangerous or risky behavior.

Elenchos @11: Remind me--which Slogger so far has expressed any joy over this tragedy? Let's review:

@1: Directed at Ted Haggard, not the shooting victims.

@2: Authored by Mr Poe, who makes fun of everybody.

@3 and 4: Pointing out a critical proofreading error by Dan Savage.

@5: Dan Savage correcting the proofreading error.

@6: Authored by Ecce Homo, who any regular Slogger knows should never be taken seriously.

@7: An update on the shootings. No nasty comments directed at anybody.

@8 and 9: Nasty and well deserved comments directed at Ecce Homo.

@10: Dan Savage, again about the proofreading error.

Finally, your comment. While many Sloggers, myself included, enjoy making fun of evangelical Christians do you seriously believe anyone here is happy about these shootings?

The first shooting happened to a group of very close friends in an organization I worked with for 12 years. They were not the victims but they run the training school.

@ 11 and 13...
What is one more more dead or wounded Christian? A dead human that causes a chain reaction of mourning from friends and family that really never goes away. A death that will cause fear and negatively change the lives of the other students forever.
The real question is... what is one more snide comment from dead brain sloggers?
The answer " Nobody Gives a Fuck"

I also stand corrected when I apparently overestimated the taste of some of my fellow Sloggers. (I should point out that 13 was posted while I was composing 17 so I didn't see it at the time I hit the Post button.) MJ, I believe 11 was being sarcastic--that's how I took it when I responded to him/her earlier. @19 - "What is one more more dead or wounded Christian? A dead human that causes a chain reaction of mourning from friends and family that really never goes away."

Newsflash - we're dumb animals that will all be dead one day. You need to lighten the fuck up. Like, a long time ago.

More importantly - why are the Slog comments no longer appearing on the main Savage Love page? I find this annoying. Because I really like to avoid bumping into the trainwrecks that are Jen Graves missives whenever possible. So could somebody look into this please? Because if it's not fixed, it's going to cause a chain reaction of mourning that will probably spread to my friends and family and may never go away.

Get out there and circulate, honey! I'm sure someone will take a fancy to you. Lots of guys like guys in lingerie!

And don't forget to call when you're ready to go back to Auburn. Try to make it fairly early - I have to work in the morning.

I don't care what you think or who you are or if you die... I mean you're just a stupid animal anyway.

Agreed, MJ. As I was scrolling through all the childishness, bitching, backstabbing and other random stupidity to post @25, I was thinking to myself, "good God, dont these people get it - there are innocent kids DYING here?" I was so sickened by what I was reading that I almost said "fuck it" and didn't make the post. But I'm happy I did - judging from the tone of the thread after that post, I think a lot of people got it too. Maybe a lot of us, myself included sometimes, are so busy being smartasses that we need to be whacked in the head occasionally to remind us that we're human. Being there on-site today certainly did that to me.

More news: As I am writing this, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department, Arvada PD, Colorado Springs PD, and ATF are serving a search warrant on a house in unincorporated Arapahoe County south of Denver. No official word why, but the fact that all those different agencies are involved makes me believe somebody thinks the two shootings were related.

The only thing that would have made this better would be seeing you pout and hearing your little feet stamping as you typed that. (And please don't try to plead the irony angle - this would require you demonstrating a reasonable grasp of the concept - which I ain't seein'. Here, or most likely, ever.)

@34 - "I was thinking to myself, "good God, dont these people get it - there are innocent kids DYING here?"

And another newsflash - that is happening more or less every minute, in various places on this planet. So thank God you were "on site" today for the point to be made more clearly to you. Probably wouldn't have happened otherwise, eh?

But hey - just keep praying for those who died, and their families. That oughta make it all better and everything will be a-okey-dokey then. I betcha. By golly. WOW.

"What kind of church has armed security Guards?"

The kind that wants to protect their members from people who think that "What's one more dead or wounded Christian anyway?" lots of people hate Christians I think that is pretty much evident from the comments on this post.

1. not all Christians hate gays
2. hating Christians for hating gays how does that match your favorite message of tolerance.
3. When anyone dies it is tradgic despite their religion, ethnicity, or sexual preference.

Yawn yawn and more yawn.

I don't care where Littleton is.

I know people die every day.

I know in America we have a shooting incident like this about oh every two or three days.

Minute by minute narrative, jurisdictional details, it's all just gawking....there's a nutty shooting like this about every hour in the USA.

So either lighten up, read a different site, or start addressing the underlying causes of this kind of madness.

These shootings don't happen so much in other countries.

The kid here took an weapon (news says) from his step dad. If all the guns are locked up, they can't be used when madmen start shooting, but if they are at hand, your own crazy stepkid or nephew can easily steal one.

Not one of the 1000 churchgoers drew on the dude -- it is hard to be quick in that way -- esp. if it endangers your family standing right next to you.

So the whole idea that an armed citizenry will stop this kind of thing is disproven yet again.

YoumusthavelovedNero, I know that your Christian Persecution Complex is the main tenant of your faith, and that things like this give you a vicarious thrill. That's your schtick. It's your way to feel brave and ethical without having to do anything.

"Hey, I'm a Christian!" you cry "Christians are prosecuted! There are people who hate us! They're trying to silence us!"

It's all crap, of course. No ones trying to kill Christians. And if some Christians would mind their own business, no one would hate them. But that would take all the fun out of it, wouldn't it?

Posted by real christian | December 10, 2007 7:44 AM

Real Christian,

I don't have a persecution complex. I just think the coverage of this would have been different. If it had been somewhere else. Like maybe a mosque.

I think that more Christians should act like Jesus. I think there is a decent number of people who give Jesus a bad name. But not every Christian does.

That being said there will always be people who hate Jesus and for the things he stands for.

"I just think the coverage of this would have been different. If it had been somewhere else. Like maybe a mosque."

Oh bullshit.

Here we have a classic Christian Persecution Complex double header: An allusion to the Liberal Media and a sideswipe at the dirty Arabs.

Thanks for proving my point.

57

Real Christian :

I also think the coverage would have been different if it had been someplace else. Say, a random 7-11 = two column inches in a local paper. (Or anywhere outside the US, = zero US coverage period.)

I also think there are a decent number of atheists who give non-believing a bad name.

That being said, there will always be Christians who are unable to even give the barest moment of thought or respect towards the reasons someone might be an atheist.

The stalemate of life. Such fun.

As a Christian living in Seattle and visiting Denver for the holidays, it's very discouraging to see news like this. Also disconcerting is the fact that New Life beefed up their security - and shot the gunman. It's great that people were prevented from being harmed, but is it the responsiblility of a church to have guns for hire? Can't we really live the call to 'turn the other cheek' instead of firing back? One of the most influential experiences for the fledgling Christian faith was being persecuted... one in which people weren't afraid to die for their faith.

Posted by arvadaguy | December 10, 2007 3:58 PM
62

@61: Dying for your faith is one thing, jumping in front of a crazed gunman screaming "Me next! ME NEXT!" is another.

In general, I don't believe all Christians have this "oh we're so persecuted" complex. I certainly don't. I just don't like it when people get shot (Christian or no).

Posted by Guy | December 10, 2007 5:04 PM

I agree with guy (#62). I don't feel persecuted. I also don't like it when anyone gets shot.

There is a huge misconception about turning the other cheek.

Avedaguy - why do churches in china meet "underground" why don't they say here we are kill us now. It is conceivable that hundreds of people would have died because of one nut.

The church did not fire the first shot if you will it took appropriate action to stop a madman.
