Have you heard the new Rufus Wainwright, where he does the Judy Garland concert? Or is that too gay?

It doesn't get much better than That's What Friends Are For. Omg. I'm out of pot.

Busted: I was listening to the new Rufus Wainwright on my iPod on the way to work this morning. I'm going to reach gay critical mass here any minute and disappear in a puff of glitter.

I was the tipster. Sweet. I sort of made it on SLOG!

Steve and Eydie are fantastic, people. They're living legends. Legends. That Eydie Gorme isn't worshipped in this nation is a shame, I tell you. A shame.

Love. It.

Oh, and I'm picking up the DVD of Rufus' Judy tribute concert this weekend. I enjoy being a gay.

Every time you listen to this, a unicorn is born.

Steve Lawrence rode her coattails the whole way. Eydie was a terrific singer; him, not so much. Sub-Jack Jones. I like Eydie's solo albums for ABC-Paramount better than Steve'n'Eydie's.

But I'm not gay.

What is the deal with the disappearing Slog post about the White House office building fire? Was the crack about Socialists and Jews too soon? Server deal? Or is there some Truther shit going on here?

Did Friz post it, Greg? Friz is famous for posting something and then deleting it within an hour.

O Eydie! So cracked. O Steve! Whatta hairy, hairy chest. Thinking of hair, is somebody bearding somebody in this "marriage"? Am I behind the curve?

You're gay?

Cute... That is how you are going to go someday in a puff of glitter.

You would have loved our little Christmas Concert. It was glitter, glitter everywhere and cheesy show tune Christmas songs with little dance steps to make it all the more corny.
It was SO FUN!

Someday I will go to Seattle and sing that song with you but I get to be Eydie!

You guys are all a bunch of gay-wads. (Do people still use that term?)

I love her record "Navidad Means Christmas." Wish I still had it. Santa?

Dan, do you ever watch The Lawrence Welk Show? Put it on your Tivo for a day like today.

Some Steve & Eydie gossip/history...my mother lives in one of those 55 and up communities in Florida. Well, she has a neighbor, who at one time was quite the looker and a performer. She and Steve were pretty hot and heavy, when he suddenly broke things off. The studio insisted he be with Eydie. They've been together a long time, but Steve was pushed into it.

Have you heard their cover of "Black Hole Sun"? It's on the "Lounge-a-palooza" compilation. You will die with glee when you hear it.

They're still doing it: http://www.steveandeydie.com/onemorefortheroad.html

Well, only where people are really old. No dates on Pine Street, Broadway or anywhere near San Francisco.

i much prefer your husband-kills-wife-kids-and-pets entries, dan. might as well stick to your savage love column if you keep posting stuff like this. you do call yourself an editor, right?

Sing this it will lighten you up

Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,our troubles will be out of sight
Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

I traveled all the way to Los Angeles just to see the Rufus/Judy concert. I went to Disneyland the same weekend. GAY!

hey #21 - you're right, sorry! it's much too close to christmas to have that kind of attitude. consider me lightened up. dan, please refrain from posting any more drive-by misses, pregnant 16 year olds, churchgoing pedofilia, etc etc etc. all it does is dampen the cheery spirit around here. thanks in advance.

I love Steve and Eydie. She's such a terrific singer and he's so pretty! I had a massive crush on him when I was a budding young homosexual.

I would like to now draw your attention to something way better than Steve and Eydie:

Jake and Dolly

@26 - WOW! That looks amazing. Wonder if we can convince Spitfire to screen it? Oh Manray, where are you when we need you?

When I was a litle kid I thought that Eydie Gorme should have teamed up with (or even marry) Mel Torme. Just because.

That note she hits at the end is just amazing!
But what's with her seemingly valium induced facial expression??

Speaking as both a breeder and one who dislikes most American popular music, I think they're terrific. Most amazing is their enunciation. The unison rapid fire passages are absolutely clear, requiring no special effort to follow the lyrics.
(Now the lyrics suck, but that's another matter...)

@30:
No disrespect meant to Steve & Edyie, but I think it's strecting things to call this "American popular music." Did they have a bunch of Top40 hits that I'm unaware of?

Don' think so...

Posted by Hal | December 19, 2007 1:22 PM

@32--They had several top-40 hits and appeared on many popular television shows in the 50s and on into the 70s. Were they super popular? Not really. But they were part of the popular culture for many, many years. Their last popular top-40 was in 1963, but I'm pretty sure they had popular albums on particular sub-lists like easy listenting, Christmas, etc.

I'm a big gay dork.
