Re: Huge Council Meeting Today

posted by on December 17 at 13:48 PM

Pardon my rant, but seeing as how our Election Control Board endorsed Sally Clark this past election (and yes, I realize her opponent was some sort anti-public art loon), I feel I should point out that Clark is turning into a complete fucking disaster on the council. A noise ordinance? One that essentially gives condo owners the ability to single-handedly shut down clubs they move upstairs from? Are you fucking kidding me?

Can someone at least semi-intelligent please run against Clark at the next opportunity? I’d vote for a package of beef jerky over her at this point.

I'd vote for a package of beef jerky over everyone. Beef jerky rules.

...checking over list of "to-do's for 2007" - shit, I forgot to run against Sally Clark!

Clark's opponent wasn't just "some kind" of anti-public art loon. She was the worst possible kind of anti-public art loon: a Christian fundie who wanted to cram her 'family values' down the city's collective throat. A package of beef jerky, or even an inferior turkey substitute, would have been better than that idiot.

complete fucking disaster? I smell a much more PURE candidate, oh that's right, you endorsed her too. why don't guys just DO THE RIGHT THING? SELL out to MAD Magazine and retire, leave the smart funny people subtley redifine your blog and mission, and voila, nothing will change.

And if you think she would have stopped with taking down the parent and child nudie statue in the statue park, I think you're an idiot too. I'm sure she'd bee with Clark on her noise ordinance 1000 percent.

When you own property of your own, you won't think noise ordinances are a bad idea any more.

put up or shut up - you can run against Sally, who just won two elections in TWO years - in four more

by the way - two election wins in two years might be considered major political success in some fart bag political circles - as in thousands of voters, sorry

sally has delicate ears I guess - good lobbying is better than bad ranking from the bully roof top

Sweet! I know my townhouse condo association is going to have a lot of fun working with our neighbor condo associations in dealing with all the clubs at the end of our block ... I think there are something like four of them ...

Don't forget that she also supported the 4-foot rule in the Strip Clubs.

Sorry, can't run, I've been arrested before.

But, since I can't run, I'll throw in my nomination for Mr. Beef... So long as Macho Man Randy Savage doesn't pop out.

i could run but i am a straight white male with a history of unrepentant drug use, sexual indiscretions, & mental issues, a dislike of public speaking, and no money.

and i get really bored with process.

on the other hand, i'm devastatingly handsome.

If condo owners should get the right to close clubs, then seattle renters should get the right to de-condoify condo'd apartment buildings... said in jest, but let's be fair about things.

Sally Clark is supporting condo owners shutting down nightlife? no no no Sally no. Unless you are some type of bourgeois trojan horse, you don't hand tons of power to condo owners to kill the interesting parts of Seattle. Do you want urban sterility to match the suburban sterility? No.

Clearly, if a condo came AFTER a club's existance, the club gets to stay. The new condo 'tenants' had prior knowledge as to what they were moving into and next to. Sorry, they had the facts, they made the choices, now they live with the consequences.

Kill the funk and it'll be binge and purge time.

I would run, but I'm a city employee. Isn't that against the law or something?

Besides, I'd be a terrible council member. I'd be forever writing resolutions memorializing Frederick & Nelson, and trying to introduce official city cocktails. Plus, I'd want every city employee to get a huge raise. Especially me.

What, was Judy Fenton not beef jerky enough for you? ;P

Sally Clark was never a good councilmember, but she was basically all there was running for that seat. The dearth of good council candidates seeking positions this past year was rather sad. Hell, if Al Runte hadn't run for the Venus/Harrell seat, he might have given Sally Clark a serious run.

Sally needs to hear from you. Consider this the official start of an effort to keep Clark from becoming the next Margaret Pageler. Write to Sally at sally.clark@seattle.gov and tell her we need sensible fair rules, that she needs to support music not kill it, and that she can either help solve the problems in this city, or become one. There is still time to save her, but she needs to hear from you, write her now.

No one is shutting down clubs, this is just another tool to manage out-of-control clubs and let residents and clubs co-exist. Club owners and music people will be represented on the body assessing any fees.
