Slog - Comments on Letter of the Day

90% of the letters we get in the news department are from angry people, telling us what assholes we are for whatever. But, every once in a while, we'll get a coherent, friendly letter, which reminds us that not everyone is as hateful as the commentors on Slog. (personal to Sloggers: see you guys in about 15) Dear Stranger Staff: I would like to express my most sincere gratitude for your fearless (and completely accurate) expose of my brutal arrest on 11/27. Jonah Spangenthal-Lee deserves a lot of respect for daring to bring this injustice to the public's attention. My...

Damn, I know exactly how he feels.

When I was approached about the article they decided to do about me when I was in jail I held my breath for weeks because I thought it was going to villify me, but they did a really balanced piece and I was, and am, eternally greatful for it.

I said it before, and I mean it, I owe my life and my freedom to The Stranger.

I wish Mark all the best.

Look, you obviously *want* to get hate mail because you publish outrageous and, quite often, mean and cruel comments yourselves, both in the print version and online (and especially on Slog). You intend to provoke people to think or act, and that's why The Stranger is partisan, opinionated, and a good read--quite different from the other insipid crap out there. Anyway, don't start complaining about the hate mail because the minute you start caring about that, that's when The Stranger will have died.

Comment by Marmstro

Jaywalking in Seattle and Lipping off to a cop and running away is actually pretty funny. Next time hang out with people that run faster. When a Seattle cop can chase down anyone either he needs to walk on as a Husky DB or your friend needs to eat less.

Tackling the cop that is subdueing your friend, although honorable among drunks is pretty stupid, but also funny.

Getting your head bashed into the pavement and get tossed in the slammer pretty much sucks, but to a degree was probably deserved.

I hope you get out soon to resume urinating in public, unlawful bus conduct, theft, trespassing, harassment, and assaulting cops, we miss you in the U district.

Comment by no sympathy

"Moments later, the officer was tackled by Hays and all three men tumbled to the ground. "

What did he think would happen when he tackled (AKA assaulted) an obviously overzealous cop? Did he expect the cop to say "Damn, you got me, good one. Go on your merry way."

It's funny how the cops claim the victim had tackled them...

when none of the witnesses mention the victim tackling anyone. In fact witnesses state that the police chased and tackled both men and never announced themselves, according to the article.

Indeed, very funny that the the SEVERAL witnesses accounts ONLY mention the police tackling and bashing the victims head into the pavement repeatedly after he had been restrained.

...all this over a jaywalking citation?

You have to love it when Seattle police officers come in here and try to defend their misconduct.
